Professor Margaret Gardner AC appointed as next Governor of Victoria
Monash University President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Gardner AC will be appointed as the 30th Governor of Victoria following the recommendation of the Premier of Victoria, The Honourable Daniel Andrews.
This is a wonderful recognition of Professor Gardner’s service to the nation, the State of Victoria, the Australian higher education sector, and to every member of the Monash University community. We thank, congratulate and celebrate our 10th* Vice-Chancellor on her appointment as the 30th Governor of Victoria following an outstanding tenure at Monash University.
Professor Gardner will commence her role as Governor on Wednesday 9 August, following the conclusion of her role at Monash University on Friday 4 August.

*Changed legislation following the introduction of the President and Vice-Chancellor position resulted in a former Vice-Chancellor’s position being reclassified as Vice-Chancellor and President during their tenure. While there are a total of 10 former Vice-Chancellors, and Vice-Chancellors and Presidents, Professor Margaret Gardner AC is the 9th Vice-Chancellor.
