Alumni to Student Mentoring
This mentoring program connects eligible Monash students with alumni mentors from across the world. Through meaningful mentoring conversations, students can gain career insight, build professional networks and develop transferable skills that support them across roles, industries and career stages.
For alumni, the program is an opportunity to give back, share hard-won experience and shape the next generation of Monash graduates. No matter their field, and no matter where in the world they're based, every mentor has something valuable to offer.
Together, mentors and mentees will explore:
- transferable skills that support success across roles, industries and career stages
- career pathways, workplace expectations and real-world professional insights
- opportunities to build confidence, networks and a stronger sense of direction
- practical steps to help students prepare for the transition from study to work. ">
By mentoring a Monash student, you can share your expertise and propel your mentee toward their professional, personal and study goals. Your support will help boost their confidence, inform their career planning and develop their skills.
You’ll be asked to provide a brief work history, select your areas of expertise and any other relevant work experience and then based on your profile, you can be matched with a Monash student.
This is a voluntary role but you will gain experience in leadership skills and make an impact on the next generation.
The time commitment for mentors:
- Attend and participate in an online induction event in the first week
- Participate in two video meetings during the program
- Meetings are to be supported by regular contact via the mentoring platform, email or phone
- Assist your mentee in expanding their professional networks
- Attend a final virtual celebration with program participants (where possible)
As a mentor you can:
- Make a positive impact on someone’s life
- Share your knowledge
- Develop your leadership skills
The registration process is straightforward and includes terms and conditions governing privacy and conduct.
Becoming a mentee gives you a chance to access the extensive global network of Monash alumni and benefit from the experiences and insights they’ve gained throughout their careers.
Connecting with someone who’s in the industry and who has been where you are now, is a great way to understand the important steps that you need to take to plan your career with confidence and prepare for your transition to the workforce.
To be eligible, you must be either:
- an undergraduate student enrolled in your final or penultimate year at any Monash campus, or
- a graduate student in any year enrolled at any Monash campus.
