Anthony Langley PRITCHARD (1940 - 2012)

Registrar (1986 - 1993)

Anthony Pritchard

The Monash University community has been saddened to learn of the recent passing of Mr Tony Pritchard, a former Registrar of the University and chief executive of its then subsidiary company, Open Learning Agency of Australia Pty Ltd.

Born in Melbourne in 1940, and educated at the Universities of Melbourne and Queensland, Mr Pritchard taught science in public and private schools, and spent some years in Papua New Guinea as a lecturer and university administrator. He joined Deakin University on its establishment and served as University Secretary (Registrar) from 1976 to 1986, when he took up the Registrar’s role at Monash.

As a key member of the Vice-Chancellor’s Executive, Mr Pritchard was active in the merger negotiations and expansion of Monash University in the late 1980s. In 1992 he oversaw the University's start-up of the Open Learning Agency of Australia Pty Ltd, a pioneering venture in the use of technology to deliver off-campus tertiary education. Mr Pritchard led the company from 1993 as its first full-time chief executive before leaving in 1998 to set up a private consultancy in the higher education and travel sectors.

Mr Pritchard gave distinguished service to the University. The Monash community extends sincere condolences to his widow, children and extended family.
