Lucas Walsh presented collaborative research with Dr Fiona Longmuir and Dr Bao Huynh at the 2025 Australian Association for Research in Education annual conference. The presentation drew from a 2022 survey of 5,500 Australian teachers about their experiences of teaching work and feelings about the profession, and the Australian Youth Barometer to explore the intersections and commonalities between the working lives of school educators and young people navigating the contemporary workforce.

The findings are presented in a new chapter in the book Casualisation, the Gig Economy, and Piece Work in Education. Dilemmas for Leaders in Times of Increasing Precarity edited by Jess Harris, Nerida Spina, Kathleen Smithers, Jill Blackmore and Sarah K. Gurr.
