Food Security Inquiry features CYPEP collaboration with the Department of Nutrition, Dietetics & Food

The final ‘Food Security Inquiry’ report tabled in Victorian parliament this week, features multiple citations of Monash's submission. Developed by the Department of Nutrition, Dietetics & Food in collaboration with CYPEP, our submission to the Legal and Social Issues Committee inquiry into the impacts, drivers of, and solutions for, food security in Victoria focused on food insecurity at the household and community level. The submission included four recommendations:

  1. A whole of government and bipartisan commitment to the investment, design,
implementation and evaluation of a Victorian Food Security Strategy. This must
include a sustained investment plan that centres the human right to food and is
designed with the food security sector and people with lived experience as experts.
  2. Sustained investment in a dedicated food security workforce.
  3. Food security, in particular at a household and community level, be reinstated as a priority area in the next iteration of the Victorian Health and Wellbeing Plan.
  4. Timely monitoring and surveillance of the prevalence and severity of food insecurity.
