Diane Singh
Aunty Diane (DAY-Walker) Singh is a Yorta-Yorta and Wemba-Wemba Elder, with strong links to the Taungurung peoples and the Wiradjuri peoples of New South Wales. She is the Elder In Residence at Monash University.
Aunty Di worked as an enrolled nurse for 30 years. In 1990 she enrolled at Monash University as a mature aged student via the Monash Orientation Scheme for Aborigines (MOSA). She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1995.
She furthered her studies in 2002 with a Diploma in Community Services (Welfare Studies) at Chisholm TAFE and in 2008 with a Certificate III in Indigenous Australian Language Studies at Gippsland TAFE in 2008.
As an active member in her local community, Aunty Di served as the Chair of the Dandenong Local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group, and Elder on the Worowa Aboriginal College Committee.
Aunty Di has made a significant contribution to Indigenous education. She worked at the Commonwealth Department of Education, Employment, Training and Youth Affairs and as Koorie Liaison Officer at the University of Ballarat, now known as Federation University.
In 2003, Aunty Di started working at the Centre for Australian Indigenous Studies at Monash, and has been an Elder In Residence for more than 15 years.
