Swan Hill rural placement program

Swan Hill is a city located in the northwest of Victoria, Australia on the Murray Valley Highway and on the south bank of the Murray River.
The Swan Hill rural professional experience program is new in 2026.
Program overview

- Who: Pre-Service Teachers in Primary and Secondary courses
- Cost: Living expenses only
You can take a V/Line train or a combination of train and bus. The train operates twice daily from Southern Cross Station to Swan Hill Station, with a journey time of approximately 4 hours and 42 minutes. Alternatively, you can take a train to Bendigo and then a bus to Swan Hill, which takes around 5 hours and 9 minutes.
Student shared accommodation is in cabins and houses which have WiFi and are close to schools. This shared living fosters support and collaboration between PSTs.
Students will be placed in either a local primary, secondary or specialist school to meet the requirements of their placement unit. They will receive ongoing support from other PSTs at their school and/or house, their mentor, an experienced Organiser of Teaching Practice at their school, a Monash Professional Practice Consultant and a CEP Mentor Mental Health and Well Being support person.
