Description
The relationship between healthcare professionals and their clients, and teachers and their students and students' parents is vital for positive outcomes. However, these relationships are complex, as psychologists, counsellors, and teachers are in a position of power.
Many regulatory bodies and organisations discourage professionals from developing personal relationships with their clients, students and students' parents due to the potential for negative outcomes. Our recent transition to online service delivery and teaching has added a further layer of complexity as many hours have now been shared "in" our houses and "in" their private spaces.
Dr Nicholas Gamble will provide a brief overview of the issues involved in maintaining appropriate professional relationships and the importance of boundaries for psychologists, counsellors and teachers. This will be followed by a discussion on the specific new challenges that the mass movement to an online environment has illuminated, along with a Q&A session.
