Innovation and External Collaboration Award

This Award rewards excellence by researchers who have sought to progress their research, or to extend the outreach of their research, through engagement with external partner organisations including industry, government and other not-for-profit sectors.

This Award ceased in 2013, replaced by the Award for Research Impact (Economic and Social).

2013 Professor Arthur Christopoulos and Professor Patrick Sexton

In 2013 Professor Arthur Christopoulos and Professor Patrick Sexton received this award in recognition of their leadership of the drug discovery partnership with Servier, France. The collaboration is direct recognition of the field-leading position of Drug Discovery Biology in G Protein-Coupled Receptor pharmacology and their integrated approach to chemistry, biology and lead optimisation.

2012 Assoc. Professor David Morton

In 2012 Assoc. Professor David Morton received this award in recognition of his leadership of the partnership with GSK Australia in the field of contemporary formulation design using BFS technologies and inhalation drug delivery. The strong multi-faceted partnership has culminated in $60M capital investment in new manufacturing equipment.

2011 Professor Susan Charman

In 2011 Professor Susan Charman received this award in recognition of her leadership of the Centre for Drug Candidate Optimisation (CDCO) and the outstanding results her team has achieved proving "thinking ADME". A specific highlight of the team's work has been CDCO's collaborations with Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) in the fight against malaria.

2010 Professor Martin Scanlon

In 2010 when he received this award, Martin Scanlon had led major collaborative programs leveraging structural biology and medicinal chemistry expertise with partners including Biota, University of Western Australia, University of Queensland, The University of Nottingham, Walter & Eliza Hall Institute, St Vincent's Hospital and Avexa.
