Some scholarships are only available to Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences students and you are invited to learn more about these scholarships and our generous donors by visiting the Faculty page here .

In addition, you are also able to apply for scholarships external to Monash. Many organisations arrange their own scholarship and grant programs. Pharmacy students may consider the Rural Pharmacy Scholarship scheme and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Pharmacy Scholarship scheme from The Pharmacy Guild of Australia . All students are welcome to click here for some suggested external scholarship providers.

Undergraduate coursework prizes

In accordance with the Coursework Scholarships and Prizes Policy and Procedure, the Faculty Dean (or nominee) is responsible for awarding Faculty prizes.
Unit winners
- Are determined at the end of each semester’s results release (and confirmed after the Supplementary and Deferred examinations Board of Examiners).
- The unit winner is the student who receives the highest mark in a unit. In event of a tie, there may be multiple winners. For each eligible unit in the Pharmacy four-year course and the Pharmaceutical Science three-year course, a winner is identified for both the Parkville and Malaysian campus.
- Awards for unit winners are for undergraduate units owned by the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
- Students who sit deferred examinations may be eligible as a unit winner as their final results can be a maximum of 100 HD.
- Students who sit supplementary examinations may not be eligible as a unit winner as their final results can be a maximum of 50 P.
Year level winners
- Are determined at the end of each year and compiled from the data from the undergraduate Board of Examiners reports (and confirmed after the Supplementary and Deferred examinations Board of Examiners).
- The year level winner is the student who receives the highest average mark across the units studied at that year level and course (and at each campus (Parkville and Malaysia) in the calendar year. In event of a tie, there may be multiple winners. Separate awards are offered for Parkville and Malaysian campuses for the Pharmacy four-year course and the Pharmaceutical Science three-year course.
- To be eligible for the year level prize students must be enrolled in a full-time load for the relevant undergraduate year and year level, unless the student has been awarded exemption from previous study. In this case, the student must be enrolled in a minimum of 36 credit points to be eligible.
- Competency based units (pass/fail) will be excluded from the calculation.
- Those who have failed a unit in the relevant year and year level will not be eligible.
Gold medal winners
- Are determined at the end of the student’s final year in their course and compiled from the data from the undergraduate Board of Examiners reports (and confirmed after the Supplementary and Deferred examinations Board of Examiners).
- Two Gold Medals are awarded by the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences: The Pharmacy Gold Medal and the Pharmaceutical Science Gold Medal.
- Students enrolled in the four-year course Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) and the five-year course Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours)/ Master of Pharmacy will be assessed as one cohort.
- Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science and Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science Advanced with Honours will be assessed as one cohort.
- Students must have completed full course requirements in the year prior to the prize giving ceremony to be eligible for the award.
- The Gold Medal winner is the student who receives the highest average mark across all units in the Bachelor of Pharmacy Honours or Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science. In event of a tie, there may be multiple winners.
Course specific information
Pharmaceutical science
- The Gold Medal Winner will be the student with the highest WAM at the end of the three-year course. Up until the year ending 2019, if a student received credit for any unit or units, calculation of Gold Medal Winners was determined using the honours calculation system. From 2020 the WAM will be used regardless of credit exemptions.
- The third-year level winner will be calculated as follows: The winner will be the student with the highest average mark of third year units. The average is calculated excluding professional experience units (BPS3062 / BPS3072).
- Those who have failed a unit in the relevant year levels will not be eligible.
- Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science Advanced (Honours) and Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science Advanced (Honours) Scholar’s Program will be assessed along with the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science students as one cohort.
- Students enrolled in Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science/Bachelor of Engineering will be eligible for the first-year level awards only. (These students enrol in their third year at Parkville with a mixture of our second- and third-year units.)
- Third Year BE(Hons)/BPharmSci exhibition winner: The winner will be a double degree student with the highest average mark across the six third year core units common for double degree students (BPS2031, BPS2041, BPS3051, BPS3061, BPS2042 and BPS3052).
Richard Prankerd Prize in Physical Chemistry
- The recipient of this prize will be determined at the end of each year and compiled from the data from the undergraduate Board of Examiners reports (and confirmed after the Supplementary and Deferred Examinations Board of Examiners).
- The award will be given to a Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences or Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Honours) or Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Honours)/Bachelor of Engineering student who is enrolled at the Parkville campus.
- The recipient will be a first-year student who:
- Achieves the highest cumulative mark for BPS1031 and BPS1032
- In the event of a tie, there may be multiple winners
- Students who have received credit for either of these units (i.e. they did not complete them at Monash) and/or are repeating either unit, will not be eligible for the Richard Prankerd Prize in Physical Chemistry
Pharmacy
- The Gold Medal Winner will be the student with the highest WAM over the length of the four-year course.
- From 2020 the WAM will be used for all course completions. Up until the year ending 2019, data for the Gold Medal Winner was compiled using the honours calculation system and excluded the third-year elective and the placement unit (PAC4371) from the calculation.
- Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) and Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) / Master of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) / Master of Pharmacy Scholars Program will be assessed as one cohort from years one to four.
Professional Practice Award
- The recipient of this award is determined at the end of each year and compiled from the data from the undergraduate Board of Examiners reports (and confirmed after the Supplementary and Deferred examinations Board of Examiners).
- The award will be given to a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours), Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) / Master of Pharmacy student who is enrolled at the Parkville campus.
- The recipient is the fourth-year student who:
- Has a minimum course weighted average of 60%; and
- Achieves the highest average mark across the degree's "Professional Practice" units.
- Students who have received credit for any of the specified units (i.e. they did not complete them at Monash) and/or have failed a unit, are not eligible for the Pharmacy Professional Practice Award.
- In event of a tie, there may be multiple winners.
The Michael Keith Halprin Pharmacy Excellence Awards
- The recipients of these awards are determined at the end of each year and compiled from the data from the undergraduate Board of Examiners reports (and confirmed after the Supplementary and Deferred examinations Board of Examiners).
- There will be two awards:
- One will be awarded to a second-year student who achieves the highest average mark across the degree's “How the Body Works” and “How Medicines Works” units.
- One will be awarded to a third-year student who achieves the highest average mark across the degree's "Comprehensive Care" units.
- Students who have received credit for any of the specified units (i.e. they did not complete them at Monash) and/or have failed a unit, are not eligible for the Michael Keith Halprin Excellence Awards.
- In event of a tie, there may be multiple winners.
Probability of winners
- Students who are multiple unit winners are often the year level winners.
- Students who win multiple units and/or one or more year levels often are the gold medal winners.
- A student may be a recipient of multiple prizes.
Postgraduate coursework prizes

In accordance with the Coursework Scholarships and Prizes Policy and Procedure, the Faculty Dean (or nominee) is responsible for awarding Faculty prizes.
Monash Pharmacy Internship Prize
The Monash Pharmacy Internship prize is awarded to a student who completed PHR5061 Applied pharmacy practice 1 and PHR5062 Applied pharmacy practice 2 in the previous year. As these units are graded Pass Grade Only (PGO), the Intern Programs Manager seeks nominations for outstanding students from moderators and awards the prize based on these nominations
Rodney P Cohen IFP Award
The Rodney P Cohen Intern Foundation Program (IFP) Award is generously donated by The Cohen Family in honour of their father Rodney, a passionate community pharmacist with astute business acumen. It is awarded to a student who successfully completed PHR5161 Foundation practice 1 and PHR5162 Foundation practice 2 in the previous year within a community pharmacy setting. As these units are graded Pass Grade Only (PGO), the Intern Programs Manager and the Intern Foundation Program team will assess the recipient based on their submitted portfolio of evidence.
Master of Pharmaceutical Science Prize
The Master of Pharmaceutical Science Prize is awarded to the student who completed the Master of Pharmaceutical Science in the previous year and received the highest weighted average mark.
Master of Clinical Pharmacy Prize
The Master of Clinical Pharmacy Prize is awarded to the student who completed the Master of Clinical Pharmacy in the previous year and received the highest average mark.
