HRM Impact Award
Dr Simona Carbone and A/Prof Natalie Trevaskis awarded the inaugural HRM Impact Award 2024
Over the past few years, Her Research Matters (HRM) has been inspired and grateful for the exceptional achievements of those fostering an environment that supports and elevates women in research. As part of our ongoing commitment to recognising these contributions, we were thrilled to introduce the HRM Impact Award for 2024, designed to celebrate the outstanding contributions to an environment supporting women in research.
This year, we were privileged to receive a small but highly competitive set of nominations, with each demonstrating high dedication and impact. Two of our nominees were both equally deserving of the award, and therefore HRM decided to share the Impact Award amongst two outstanding women in science. We warmly congratulate Dr Simona Carbone and Assoc Prof Natalie Trevaskis on being the joint recipients of the inaugural HRM Impact Award for 2024.
Dr Simona Carbone has been a dedicated advocate for women in research, both within HRM and beyond. Serving on the HRM Committee from 2022 to 2023, and as Secretary in 2023, she has played a key role in advancing the organisation's mission. Through her leadership in the MIPS community, her podcast on leadership, and her involvement in mentoring initiatives such as the University’s SWAN program (a globally recognised accreditation program offering a framework for advancing gender equity, diversity, and inclusion), Dr Carbone has made a lasting impact on advancing the careers of women researchers.
Associate Professor Natalie Trevaskis is currently the co-Chair of HRM and has been a long time advocate for the HRM collective and our work. She has been named to Clarivate’s list of Highly Cited Researchers for three consecutive years, reflecting the global influence of her work and leadership in the field of pharmacology. She also advocates for gender-equitable research practices in drug development, contributing to advancements in women’s health research, and significant portions of her work address disease and treatments that improve women’s health. In addition, Assoc Prof Trevaskis mentors and champions the work of young women researchers, and advocates for structural changes that promote gender equity in our institution and beyond.
We would also like to thank the work of the sub-committee (Rosemary Manning, Dr Daniel Priebbenow, Dr Lauren May, A/Prof Michelle Halls, Prof Denise Wootten, Dr Kali Godbee, Dr Natalie Diepenhorst, and Dr Orlagh Feeney) for establishing the guidelines for selection, choosing the award recipients and for all other work involved with making this fantastic idea become reality. HRM looks forward to celebrating even more inspiring women and their transformative work in the years to come.
