Pathways into our courses
Science-based tertiary studies are the best alternative pathway into the faculty’s pharmacy and pharmaceutical science programs.
A course transfer refers to changing course whilst you are still in the middle of studying a course (i.e. you haven't graduated from it yet). Course transfers can be internal (e.g. changing from one Monash course to another) or external (e.g. changing from another institution to Monash).
Once you've met our prerequisites at tertiary level (note: they can also be met through a combination of high school and tertiary study), you can apply to transfer into our undergraduate courses. Note that the minimum time you must have spent studying your primary course is one year, and the faculty only has one intake in February.
It is highly recommended that you transfer from a science-based degree, or that you have completed a lot of science-based units during your tertiary studies. When assessing for transfer, we don't give preference to Monash applicants, all applicants must meet the same minimum criteria.
Please note that credit is not currently given for transfers into pharmacy. Our graduate entry pharmacy program offers another pathway to pharmacy that you may like to consider, however some students do choose to transfer after one or two years of study. There is no better pathway, it simply depends on your goals and circumstances.
How to apply
Internal transfer (current Monash students): Current Monash students can apply directly around September-October. Should you miss the internal transfer dates, you can still put an application in through VTAC, as below.

Final year Monash students: If you're in the final year of a Monash degree and wish to apply for another Monash degree, you must submit your application through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC). VTAC opens in early August each year.
External transfer (non-Monash students): Should apply through VTAC and include transcripts of your tertiary results.
To be eligible to transfer into Pharmaceutical Science, we require you to meet a credit average (60% minimum) if you fulfilled prerequisites at high school level. If you had to undertake and/or fulfil prerequisites at tertiary level, you are required to achieve a distinction average (70% minimum) to be eligible to transfer.
Find a course lists all our course entry requirements. We prefer you to have completed first-year university chemistry and mathematics subjects with excellent results.
At a minimum, the faculty requires you to meet a 70% average across all subjects for transfer into Pharmacy courses.
Students studying pharmacy at Monash Malaysia can apply to transfer their studies to Monash Parkville at the end of their first or second year of study. An average mark of at least 60% across all completed units is required.
Credit for prior studies is assessed on an individual basis when you enrol. We will provide the details of any credit you receive before classes start.
