Welcome 2023 from Acting Dean Professor Paul White, Deputy Dean, Associate Dean of Education, Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Hello, and congratulations on securing a place to study with us at Monash Parkville.
On behalf of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, I am delighted and excited to welcome you - a cohort of students who, despite the impacts of COVID-19, have shown such incredible tenacity and determination. You’ve made it!
Our faculty is first and foremost an inclusive, welcoming community where people support each other to succeed; to make a difference in our community.
We are excited to be connecting with each other in person after a few years of not consistently being able to do so!
With that in mind, I strongly encourage you to embrace the university experience - attend events and functions, join a club or a study group, engage with student leadership opportunities.
Not only will you make friends, but you will build the professional networks that will serve you throughout your career. You will also be helping yourself academically, because there is very compelling evidence that students who have strong connections with their peers are more likely to succeed.
We are also committed to excellence in everything we do. You may be aware that Monash is currently ranked #1 in the world for pharmacy and pharmacology. We didn’t achieve this by focusing on a select few high performers, but by striving for excellence across the board. Expect to work hard and be challenged, but also encouraged, nurtured and given the tools to succeed.
Make the most of learning from world-leaders in medicines management and development. Your teachers will include those discovering new medicines, including Australia’s mRNA therapeutics charge, those who have successfully commercialised their innovative discoveries, and those creating new medicine guidelines for our community’s most vulnerable.
We are also internationally recognised for the innovations we have made in education.
Your university journey with us is about to begin. Who knows which of the many career opportunities available to you will eventuate. Make the most of this precious period in your life to make friends, study hard, and above all, immerse yourself in the experience.
Congratulations again on gaining a place at one of the world’s most esteemed pharmacy and pharmaceutical science schools. I look forward to seeing you around campus soon.
