Important Course Information
The program takes a year to complete (part-time) and is offered through multi-modal delivery, requiring both online and in-person learning.
Early applications are strongly encouraged due to a limited number of available places in each intake. Applications will be processed, and offers made sequentially, based on the time of submission, to applicants who meet the minimum entry requirements.

This course is designed to support pharmacists in making safe prescribing decisions and patient assessments. The units included in 'Part A: Core prescribing skills studies' are accredited with conditions by the Australian Pharmacy Council (APC). Other components cover the diagnosis and management of specific primary care conditions.
The scope of pharmacist practice in Australia is constantly changing and is subject to national as well as state/territory legislation. We therefore do not guarantee that this course will allow you to meet the requirements to work within an expanded scope in your local jurisdiction. It is your responsibility to confirm the training requirements that must be met in order for you to engage in expanded prescribing activities as a pharmacist in your state/territory of practice.
The course consists of two traditional units (taught within a 12-week university semester) and two microcredentials (an assessed short course of study that can be credited towards a higher degree qualification).

PART A: Core prescribing skills studies
Pharmacist Prescribing Skills 1
6 credit-point traditional unit of study that focuses on core prescribing principles and processes that are reinforced by teaching clinical conditions requiring expanded scope physical examination skills (i.e. Otitis media/externa, allergic rhinitis; asthma, COPD; GORD, acute nausea/vomiting associated with gastroenteritis).
Pharmacist Prescribing Skills 2
6 credit-point traditional unit of study that focuses on assessing prescribing competence in a work-integrated learning environment under the supervision of an approved prescriber. This unit will also teach prescribing in the context of Hypertension, Dyslipidaemia, Weight management; Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
Note: Learners are required to successfully pass Pharmacist Prescribing Skills 1 as a prerequisite for this unit.
PART B: Core prescribing microcredentials
Pharmacist Prescribing: Clinical Conditions 1
6 credit-point microcredential that focuses on preventative health conditions such as contraception, travel health, smoking cessation, and oral health risk assessment.
Pharmacist Prescribing: Clinical Conditions 2
6 credit-point microcredential that focuses on dermatological/musculoskeletal conditions such as impetigo, shingles; acne, dermatitis, psoriasis; acute wound management; acute musculoskeletal pain.
For a detailed overview of program key dates, refer to the 2026 Key Dates and FAQs document. The earliest that the program can be completed is September 2026, with options for later completion also outlined.
Application dates:
- Applications for Semester 1 2027 open on 15th August to 30th September 2026
To apply, simply complete the online e-admissions application and upload the following documents:
- Academic transcripts (as evidence of completion of a bachelor degree)
- Proof of residency status (e.g. copy of birth certificate, passport or visa)
- Proof of professional registration
- Evidence of meeting the English requirement (if required)
