Education Leadership

The Faculty Award for Educational Leadership recognises outstanding and significant educational leadership that has positively influenced educational practice at the University and/or faculty level and beyond (in local, national or international settings). Through formal or informal leadership roles, applicants must demonstrate significant change to or influence within a substantial program of work.

2026 Dan Malone

Associate Professor Daniel Malone is Director of the Pharmacy degree at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, overseeing the education of more than 1,300 undergraduate pharmacy students. A registered pharmacist, he completed his PhD in neuropharmacology in 2000.

He has received numerous university and faculty teaching awards, alongside Australian Government Office of Learning and Teaching accolades. In 2022 he led a team that received the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Innovation in Teaching Award, the first time the honour had been presented to a team outside North America. This work was further recognised with a Universities Australia Program Award in 2024.

Dan’s research focuses on improving pharmacy education, particularly through authentic assessment and simulation‑based learning using MyDispense. He has published more than 70 peer‑reviewed articles, including papers in Medical Education and Advances in Health Sciences Education.

He has contributed to national and international governance through service on several external committees, including the Australian Pharmacy Council Examinations Committee, the New Zealand Pharmacy Council Accreditation Advisory Group, and the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Accreditation Committee. He continues to work part‑time in community pharmacy in Melbourne, maintaining strong links to contemporary practice.

2023 Kirstie Galbraith

Contribution: Kirstie is an internationally recognised expert in practitioner development across the lifecycle of undergraduates to Advanced Practice Pharmacists, with demonstrated leadership in engagement across academic and practice settings. Her local, national and international leadership in pharmacy practice and education has been recognised with numerous credentials and Fellowships, and most recently with her promotion to Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Education at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Monash University.
