Embedding Research Use in Educational Practice

Evidence-informed practice in education involves drawing on the use of quality research evidence and the professional expertise of teachers to inform, change and improve decision making and practice in schools. This course is for teachers, school leaders and educators who want to be supported through the process of using research to address a particular issue in their practice.

Through a 21-hour professional learning program over a suggested 12-month duration, consisting of workshops and self-guided modules, participants will undertake a project by applying research to a particular issue in their school or organisation.

The course materials include the QURE assessment tool to reflect upon research use; case studies from teachers who have implemented a research-informed change in their schools; and scaffolded guidance and support to address the practice problem using research.

The program was developed from the Monash Q Project, a five-year investigation in partnership with the Paul Ramsay Foundation to understand and improve the use of research in Australian schools.
