A lasting legacy
Fifteen years ago, to coincide with the 125th anniversary of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Alistair Lloyd AO, launched a special appeal: “The appeal is an opportunity for college alumni to make certain that future graduates have access to the best teaching and facilities and to ensure that we continue to lead new drug research and safe usage of medicines.”
Fast-forward 15 years – the 2021 QS World University Rankings by subject rank Monash University number two in the world for Pharmacy and Pharmacology for the second year in a row. Professor Arthur Christopoulos, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences said, “To rank number two in the world for Pharmacy and Pharmacology for the second year in a row reflects the Faculty’s continuous drive to be at the forefront of pharmaceutical research, practice and education on the world stage.
“As the experts in medicines and the way they interact with the body, pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists play a vital role in our healthcare system. Now, more than ever, the world needs these skill sets as we collectively tackle a number of global health challenges.
The Faculty’s success would not be possible without the dedication of our talented staff and students and the generosity of our collaborators in the pharmacy profession and in biomedical research and education.”
Gifts that are transforming our world
Friends and alumni have generously chosen to make bequests to support the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences – a commitment made in the present but realised in the future.
Following Alistair Lloyd’s appeal, these significant bequests continue to play an important role in the Faculty’s success, providing funding for teaching, research, resources, scholarships, bursaries and prizes. Donors are passionate about education. They are keen to ensure that our graduates and researchers continue to compete with those from the world’s top schools of pharmacy. They also want their profession to continue to expand and develop.
A bequest is a wonderful way to give back to the next generation, a lasting legacy, and something anyone can do, no matter the size. Now, to commemorate the 140th anniversary of the Faculty, we invite you to consider a bequest to support the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
John and Lyn’s story
The decision by John Coppock and his wife Lyn to become bequestors to Monash’s Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences seems logical, given John’s background. After graduating from the Melbourne College of Pharmacy in 1954 (before it joined forces with Monash), John has worked in the industry, both in his own pharmacy and on numerous boards, including a position on the faculty foundation board at Monash. Their gift is more about the future than the past.
“The Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences has become an international star in its own right, world-renowned and is emphasising all the things that pharmacy does best,” said John. “Having more well-trained pharmacy professionals enhances the wellbeing of the population. I think they’re being underutilised. With their broad knowledge, they are being trained to interact with other health professionals for greater outcomes.
I enjoy the enthusiasm of these young people, the quality of the students, the knowledge base of them. When I look at those students I feel like I’m looking at the future.”
We welcome the opportunity to thank benefactors for their intention to support the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in this very special way and encourage those who have included the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, in their will to let us know, so their support can be recognised during their lifetime.
