Four academics from the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (FPPS), located at Monash’s Parkville campus, have been identified among the top one per cent of international scientists by citations for their field in the 2024 Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher list.
Monash University FPPS Dean, Professor Arthur Christopoulos, FAA FAHMS; Director of the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS), Professor Chris Porter ; Director of the ARC Centre for Cryo-electron Microscopy of Membrane Proteins, Professor Patrick Sexton and Head of the Lymphatic Medicine Laboratory Associate Professor Natalie Trevaskis all featured in this year’s prestigious HiCi roll-call, marking them among the most influential researchers worldwide.
All four have been named in a list of the world’s most influential academics in the field of Pharmacology and Toxicology.
The annual list uses quantitative and qualitative analysis to identify individuals from across the globe who have demonstrated significant and broad influence in their chosen field or fields of research.
Specifically, the Highly Cited Researchers' names are drawn from the publications that rank in the top one per cent by citations for field and publication year in the Web of Science citation index, and the list identifies the research institutions and countries where they are based.
Of the world’s population of scientists and social scientists, Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers are one in 1,000.
The four Parkville-based academics conducted their research through MIPS, which sits within FPPS. MIPS has evolved into an international leader in drug discovery and development with impact in the treatment of major global health burdens. The Institute is also committed to research translation and has made major contributions to collaborative drug discovery programs that have progressed more than 30 novel drug candidates into clinical development.
This year, analysts at the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI)™ recognised 6,636 Highly Cited Researchers from more than 1,200 institutions in 59 nations and regions.
In total, 25 Monash University researchers made the Clarivate list, including Monash Malaysia.
