Two world-leading researchers from Monash’s Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (FPPS) have been identified among the top one per cent of international scientists by citations for their field in the 2025 list of Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers.
For the twelfth year in a row FPPS Dean, Professor Arthur Christopoulos, FAA FAHMS, has been acknowledged as one of the most influential researchers globally in the field of Pharmacology and Toxicology, alongside Professor Patrick Sexton, who has also been a long-term regular on the list in the field of Pharmacology and Toxicology since 2014.
The annual list of Highly Cited Researchers acknowledges influential researchers across a broad range of disciplines whose academic papers are most often cited by other researchers around the world. When a researcher’s work has been consistently referenced by peers in their field, it makes an impact on the direction and progress of research worldwide.
Of the world’s population of scientists, Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers (‘HiCis’) are one in 1,000.
Both Professors conduct their research in the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS), which sits within FPPS. MIPS has evolved into an international leader in drug discovery and development with impact in the treatment of major global health burdens.
Monash as a whole has maintained a strong presence on the yearly list of highly cited researchers, illustrating the University’s commitment to research excellence and impact.
This year’s result, with 27 Monash researchers identified on the Clarivate list, continues a trend of growing Monash’s HiCi cohort, which has increased from 23 in 2024 and 17 in 2023.
