Having graduated from Monash University in 2020, Ethan Kreutzer is currently undertaking his internship with Alfred Health, one of Melbourne's major metropolitan hospital services.
Despite the hospital environment being challenging at times given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the experience has provided Ethan with opportunities to build upon existing skills and develop new ones. A key example of this was his involvement in the hospital's COVID-19 vaccine rollout, where pharmacy interns were instrumental in the initial phases of this program through vaccine preparation. He also had the opportunity to give a presentation on "COVID-19 Vaccines; A Pharmacist's Guide" to the hospital pharmacy department earlier this year.
Ethan is the immediate past President of the National Australian Pharmacy Students' Association (NAPSA), having served for 12 months since July last year. This position opened Ethan's eyes to the inner workings of the pharmacy industry and its major organisations, as well as the passion of pharmacy students across the country for their chosen profession. Ethan is proud to share this passion and is keen to continue utilising this in order to improve patient outcomes.
"It's an honour to receive this award, but I would like to take the opportunity to recognise that it is a culmination of effort. Thank you to my family, teachers and friends, who all supported me toward this achievement. I hope to honour their support through the next phase of my career."

Hualong Li is currently a fourth year student in the midst of completing his pharmacy internship applications. His decision to study pharmacy stemmed from a passion in drug science and admiration towards healthcare professionals.
On weekends, you will find Hualong working at his local community pharmacy and the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Here he works alongside other fourth-year peers as a sterile technician for the Royal Melbourne Hospital, assisting with the COVID-19 vaccine rollout.
Nearing the end of his studies, Hualong is excited to be taking the next step in his career, exploring the multitude of opportunities pharmacy has to offer. Currently, Hualong has interests in the field of hospital pharmacy and more emerging roles in the industry, such as the position of a professional services pharmacist.
"Studying pharmacy has given me the opportunity to make an impact on the lives of others. It has been such a rewarding journey and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store."

Amanda Viera is currently undertaking the Bachelor of Pharmacy/Master of Pharmacy degree. She has wanted to study pharmacy since early high school, and her desire to help people by promoting the safe and effective use of medicines continues to inspire her to become a pharmacist.
Her pharmacy experience so far has enabled Amanda to learn from many highly skilled and supportive pharmacists, including throughout the COVID-19 pandemic working in both community and hospital pharmacies.
Amanda is interested in pursuing a career in hospital pharmacy, with particular interest in the areas of cardiology and antimicrobial stewardship. She is also passionate about advocating the value of pharmacists and their important role in the healthcare team to provide extensive knowledge about medications and the best possible patient care.
Outside of pharmacy, Amanda enjoys going for walks and supporting her AFL football team.
"I am excited to continue my pharmacy journey and contribute to positive changes in people’s lives through optimising their medication use and providing valuable patient education."

Tze Shing Lim is currently a second year undergraduate student. Her interest in both biology and chemistry encouraged her to enroll in the Bachelor of Pharmacy/Master of Pharmacy course offered by Monash University.
Her undergraduate journey so far has not only allowed her to explore the physiology and chemistry behind drugs and their effects on the body in more depth, but also further opened her eyes to the world of pharmacy, especially in areas involving the role of pharmacists in the optimisation of patient care.
Tze Shing is eager to give back to the community one day by applying the knowledge she has gained throughout this course to provide good patient education and to promote the safe and effective use of medicines.
Outside of studying, Tze Shing enjoys spending her free time going on a good hike.
"I am excited to continue to learn more from all the passionate and inspiring lecturers in the coming years and at the same time, improving and adding to my skill set that will prepare me for what will undoubtedly be a rewarding career as a pharmacist."

Siobhonne (Bonnie) Breen is a current Honours student in the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science course. Her love for science began at an early age and has flourished through her time in this course. Alongside the course, Bonnie likes to stay active, attempting to attend a multitude of university events while working part-time. She has also been an active Student Ambassador, peer mentor and NRC advisor throughout her degree.
Bonnie’s current honours project, targeting antibiotic resistant ‘superbugs’ with innovative antibiotic therapies, has shown its challenges; however, her attention to detail and love of learning has made the project extremely enjoyable. Bonnie has a keen interest in improving clinical outcomes through personal care. At the completion of her honours, Bonnie would like to undertake a PhD, where she hopes to continue her scientific journey and build on her skills.
"If you always try your hardest, those efforts should never be considered as failure."

Yuchen Lu always has a different answer when she is asked about her favourite place in the world. She loves staying in the hospitals and watching how medicine is prepared. Inspired by her interest, she decided to become a pharmaceutical scientist.
During her journey at Monash University, Yuchen developed a holistic and integrated understanding of the drug discovery pipeline and the pharmaceutical industry around the world. The fact that many current treatments may not be able to cure diseases while others have side effects or individual variations further enhances her passion for pharmaceutical research. Given that Yuchen prefers more translational and bedside research opportunities, she eventually chose Europe as her future workplace. The accurate, cutting-edge and comprehensive drug discovery and development knowledge and skills that Monash had taught her have prepared her to pursue a Master's and a PhD degree in pharmaceutical science.
"I hope there will be a day when I can meet and communicate with my old friends and lovely lecturers with more competent skills and different perspectives of science from another side of the world."

Having looked forward to a career in the medical and scientific field since primary school, Laura (Yifan) Wen commenced her studies in the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science Advanced (Honours) course after moving from China and finishing her secondary education in Melbourne. Throughout the duration of the course, she has reinforced her interests in human physiology, and became particularly drawn to drug discovery biology research.
While engaging in her academic commitments, Laura also became greatly involved with the student union, establishing a Parkville-specific volunteering program to improve student experience and engagement.
Starting from the 2021 winter holiday, Laura has taken up an internship position at WEHI’s immunology department, where she is striving to improve her laboratory skills and understanding of immune system pathophysiology. She hopes to utilise the knowledge gained from this course to further investigate autoimmune disorders and novel immunotherapies as a part of her career.
"Pharmaceutical science enables scientific breakthroughs and paves the way for improved medical treatments, I am thrilled to be able to learn from the best and contribute to this process in the near future."
