Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science

The Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science is a single three-year degree. The single degree is managed by the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. It can also be combined with chemical engineering as the five year double degree Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science. The double degree is managed by the Faculty of Engineering. A four year honours degree is also available to high-achieving school leavers, combining the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science degree with a year of research focus.

Course planning: single degree

From 2018, Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science students commenced a newly developed curriculum with unit code (BPS versus PSC codes), title and content changes. Instead of choosing a specialisation mid-second year, students choose end second year and specialise in their third year. The honours year is the fourth year. Students enrolled in this four year degree should follow the course requirements as stated in the Undergraduate Handbook of the year in which they commenced the course in conjunction with updated course maps included below.

The Undergraduate Coursework Manager is available for course planning advice. For students in the established Pharmaceutical Science courses in teach out (taking PSC units) individual course planning will be required as we work out requirements needed to complete the course and find possible equivalent units.

Course planning: advanced with (honours) single degree

From 2018, Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science Advanced (Honours) students commenced a newly developed degree with unit code, title and curriculum content changes. Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science Advanced with (Honours) students should follow the course requirements as stated in the Undergraduate Handbook of the year in which they commenced the course. This is because course requirements can change each year.

Students in the honours degree must maintain a distinction average to remain in the course. The Undergraduate Coursework Manager is available for course planning advice. For students in the established Pharmaceutical Science courses in teach out (taking PSC units) individual course planning will be required as we work out requirements needed to complete the course and find possible equivalent units. Students enrolled in the four year honours course who do not meet the distinction average by the end of their third year will be course completed with the P2001 Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science. Should any student enrolled in P3002 with a distinction not wish to complete their honours year they should simply contact us by the end of their third year.

Course planning: double degree

Students enrolled in the Engineering/Pharmaceutical Science degree complete years 1 and 3 at the Parkville campus (Pharmaceutical Science component; formulation science major) and years 2, 4 and 5 at the Clayton campus (Engineering component). This information is for the Pharmaceutical Science component only. For Engineering course planning information contact the Faculty of Engineering. From 2018, the Pharmaceutical Science component of this degree commenced a newly developed course with unit code, title and curriculum content changes. This will affect double degree students who commenced in 2017 and an interim course map has been developed for these students.
