Student Experiential Placements (StEPs)
The Student Experiential Placement Program (StEPs) is a vital component of Monash University's four-year undergraduate pharmacy degree.
You will attend approximately 13 weeks of placement as a Pharmacy student, spread over three years. You will gain exposure to a wide variety of public and private settings, which can include metropolitan and regional hospitals, aged care facilities, and privately-owned pharmacies.
Preparation for placement begins in first year, with students attending a briefing, registering with the program, and completing some pre-placement requirements.
Placements begin from second year, as follows:
- Second Year: 1-week primary care placement
- Third Year: 2-week primary care placement and 2-week hospital placement. Students will have the opportunity in Third Year to apply for a 6-week remote rural placement, to be undertaken in Fourth Year
- Fourth Year: 4-week primary care placement and 4-week hospital placement. Successful applicants who applied in Third Year will attend a 6-week remote rural placement.
Fourth Year students also complete an 8-week Inquiry research project. These are managed by the Inquiry Team.
