Dr Anja Slim

Research Overview

I'm inspired by the wealth of problems at the intersection of applied mathematics and geosciences, from the surprising ways in which very dense sulfide melts may be transported into mineable ore deposits to exploring the practicality of carbon capture and storage as a means of reducing carbon dioxide emissions. I combine experiments and simulations in my research, together with a rigorous reduction of models to their essentials where the deepest insight can often be gained.

My background is in applied mathematics, with a specialization in fluid dynamics. I received my Bachelors, Masters and PhD from the University of Cambridge, where I worked with Herbert Huppert. I was then a Killam post-doctoral fellow at the University of British Columbia with Neil Balmforth followed by an industry-funded post-doc at Harvard with L Mahadevan. Before coming to Monash, I spent three years at Schlumberger as a research scientist working on carbon capture and storage and enhanced oil recovery.
