The current postdoc representative is Dr Rikeish R Muralitharan (rikeish.muralitharan@monash.edu)
Funding Opportunities and Awards
The School of Biological Sciences offers several schemes to support ECR research, travel, and career development, and to recognise the outstanding achievements of our postdocs. Current schemes (and approximate application dates):
- ECR National Conference Support award – offered in two application rounds each year (March and September), this funding aims to promote ECR attendance at Australian conferences.
- ECR Career Development award – grants to increase the research capacity of postdocs through funding to hire a casual research assistant.
- Advancing Diversity in Biology grant – this award is designed to provide career development and research support for researchers belonging to underrepresented groups. Application guidelines available in September.
- Mike Cullen Research Fellow Award – for the most outstanding publication resulting from postdoctoral research undertaken within the School. Application guidelines available in October. See past prizewinners here.
Other Opportunities
Give a seminar – the School currently hosts a regular seminar series. You are very welcome to suggest yourself (or an external speaker) as a presenter.
Guest lecturing opportunities – if you are interested in gaining lecturing experience, please contact the Education Director to introduce yourself and register your interest, with a short description of your expertise. See undergraduate courses offered through the School here.
Honours student supervision – Postdocs in the School are encouraged to supervise honours students (with a permanent academic staff member as co-supervisor). Details of the Honours program can be found here. Projects are advertised in the Honours Projects; see the current list on the Honours page for examples of project descriptions. Postdocs interested in supervising should complete the Introduction to Graduate Research Supervision at Monash training course, available through myDevelopment.
University Postdoc/ECR Community
Monash is home to a friendly and vibrant community of ECRs, active at the School, Faculty, and University levels. These networks offer a variety of workshops, panel discussions, networking events and social activities. Make sure you sign up to stay informed!
