Particle Physics
Our group is part of the Centre of Excellence for Particle Physics, which assisted the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012. We offer a wide selection of research projects to students ranging from particle theory through particle astrophysics to particle cosmology. Most of these projects use supercomputers and rely on data from the Large Hadron Collider, astrophysical observation, and various other experiments. Besides Monash, our students have continued their studies at Cambridge, Harvard, the Perimeter Institute, and other leading international institutes. | ![]() A candidate Higgs boson event from a proton-proton collision at the ATLAS experiment, producing two electrons (short blue tracks) and two muons (long blue tracks).
