Research Centres and Special Initiatives
Securing Antarctica’s Environmental Future (SAEF)
Securing Antarctica’s Environmental Future is an Australian Research Council Special Research Initiative, administered by Monash and part of the part of the Australian Antarctic Program. SAEF’s mission is to understand the changes taking place across the Antarctic region – to its climate and its biodiversity – and develop innovative ways to forecast, mitigate and manage these changes.
Plant Success in Nature and Agriculture
The School of Biological Sciences hosts the Monash node of the ARC Centre of Excellence for
Plant Success in Nature and Agriculture. This centre aims to transform plant science for the next generation through strong industrial and global partnerships, interdisciplinary collaborations, mentoring and communication.
Centre for Geometric Biology (CGB)
The School of Biological Sciences hosts the Monash Centre for Geometric Biology. CGB is developing and testing a new theory for how and why organisms grow. Their particular focus is on how the net flux of energy (the energy acquired through food, photosynthesis, or chemosynthesis minus the energy lost to metabolism) changes with size, whether it be cell size or total body size.
