Volcanology is a broad field that stretches from fundamental geological research such as the evolution of the Earth to applied risk and hazard studies of active volcanoes. Volcanology at Monash University focuses on volcanic systems from large felsic calderas to intraplate monogenetic basaltic fields, economic deposits such as volcanic massive sulfides, and volcanic processes such as quench fragmentation, phreatomagmatic activity and pyroclastic flows.
