This program does not require prior study and is suited to educators, school leaders, and other professionals.

What you will learn

Module One: Foundations of School Wide Positive Behaviour Interventions and Supports (SWPBIS) for Teachers and School Leaders

• The relation between SWPBIS, prevention science, and implementation science
• The influence of contemporary education theories on the development of the SWPBIS framework
• The behavioural principles that underpin SWPBIS and provide examples of how these principles are involved in teaching and learning
• The critical features of SWPBIS and how these critical features align to wider school improvement initiatives
• How SWPBIS can support students from different equity groups
• A set of valued outcomes before beginning SWPBIS implementation

Module Two: Class Wide SWPBIS Practices

• The physical environment in the classroom to promote student engagement and success
• Classroom routines to students
• Positively stated expectations to students (prompting and pre-correcting)
• Active supervision
• The importance of effective academic instruction
• Small teachable components
• Opportunities to respond
• Continuum of strategies to reinforce positive behaviour
• A continuum of strategies to respond to challenging student behaviour

Module Three: School Wide Systems to Support Implementation of SWPBIS

• Examples of ways in which school leadership can support the implementation of SWPBIS
• Examples of ways that professional learning can support the implementation of SWPBIS
• Examples of ways that teams can support the implementation of SWPBIS
• Examples of ways that the collection and analysis of data can support the implementation of SWPBIS
• How to use a data-based problem solving model at the individual student, classroom, and school level to monitor progress toward valued outcomes
• Considerations for supporting students with high risk challenging behaviour

Recognition

This program references the following Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APST): 1, 4 and 6.

You will receive a Certificate of Completion from the Faculty of Education, Monash University.

How long do I have to complete this course?

You have 12 months from the date of your registration to complete this program.

Is there a specific program start date, and are there any live classes?

No, this program is conducted via self-paced online learning on our Learning Management System, so there are no live lectures or scheduled class times - you can register into this program at any stage and complete the course online at times/days that suit you and at your own pace.

Once I have registered, when will I get access to the course?

You will receive access to the Learning Management System on the same or next business day. Please note that if you register on a  weekend or public holiday, you will not receive access til the next business day.

My organisation would like to pay for my registration in this course via tax invoice. How do I go about organising this?

Please email us at edu.pdp@monash.edu advising us that your organisation would like to pay for your registration via tax invoice. We will email you an application form to fill in, and you will need to complete this and return it back to us with a copy of a purchase order from your organisation for the course fees. We can then complete your enrolment and organise a tax invoice.

What if the course is blocked by a firewall at my school?

Some Queensland participants may find that their access to the Learning Management System is blocked by the Department of Education firewalls. However, you will still be able to access the course using your own device outside of school.
