Diploma of Art and Design
Study the Diploma if you:
- are interested in a career in art, design or architecture
- would like to study subjects that directly relate to your future degree
- would like to learn a range of creative art and design skills
- would like to develop a folio of creative work.
A Monash College Diploma of Art and Design provides a pathway into first or second year at Monash Art, Design and Architecture (MADA).*
Select a stream depending on your career goals and in part 2 of your diploma you will study the same subjects as first-year students in Architecture, Fine Art or Design degrees.

We work with MADA's academic staff to make sure you gain the confidence and skills to prepare you for entry into the University.

You need to satisfy the following entrance requirements to be considered for entry to this course.
Minimum Entry Requirements (Domestic students)
Qualifications
To be accepted into a Monash College Diploma, you must meet the academic and English language requirements. You will also need to check the age and subject requirements before you apply.
Prerequisite subjects
You must meet the additional course prerequisite subjects which are equivalent to Australian Year 11 (part 1) or Australian Year 12 (part 2).

Minimum age requirements
Part 1: 16 years
Part 2: 16 years 6 months
If you do not meet the age requirements, you may be offered a deferred place.
English requirements
Diploma Part 1

University entrance requirements
Minimum entrance requirements for admission to Monash University Australia.
Extra Requirements
To enter directly into part 2, you will need a folio of creative work. If you do not have a folio you may be offered a place in part 1.
You must include in your folio:
- traditional academic drawing – life and still-life drawing
- creative drawing – idea sketching, experiments in different drawing media.
Some suggested examples of work:
- three-dimensional concept drawing, i.e. industrial design or architectural concepts
- model making, i.e. architecture or product models
- graphic and typographic design, i.e. posters, invitations, letterheads, branding or brochures
- sculpture or ceramics
- painting
- printmaking
- photography
- digital illustration or renderings
- animations/multimedia/website design.
Work is assessed according to:
- intended area of study (faculty degree)
- drawing ability (both academic and creative)
- uniqueness
- originality
- sophistication of ideas and concepts
- experimentation
- technical skills
- sensitivity to media.
Submit your folio
Include at least three examples of your work. Present your work as a PDF (one combined file, maximum 5MB) or a PowerPoint slide show (maximum 15 slides). Submit your folio as a DVD, USB, or email mcdocuments@monash.edu
