Tailor the course to suit your needs

Throughout the course you’ll have opportunities to develop your own interests within applied linguistics and apply your knowledge to professional contexts.

  • Gain core knowledge of both theoretical and real-world issues relating to applied linguistics, including: language in multilingual societies, second language acquisition, English language teaching, intercultural communication and digital language.
  • Explore your own interests via your choice of specialist study within applied linguistics, in areas such as: discourse analysis, bi/multilingual education, or teaching global languages; or choose from a wide range of enrichment units and complementary electives.
  • Develop skills in language analysis and be able to apply small practice-based research projects within your own professional context as part of the assessment process.
  • Build essential competencies for your career pathway via our Professional Enhancement Program (PEP) and choose from a suite of unique modules taught by academic and industry experts.
  • Pursue an interest in graduate research (PhD) via the optional Research Pathway (Eligible high-achieving students may apply to undertake a research thesis).

Minimum Entry Requirements (Domestic students)

Qualifications

Entry level 1: 96 points to complete Duration: 2 years full-time, 4 years part-time

 An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) with at least credit (60%) average.

Entry level 2: Duration: 72 points to complete 1.5 years full-time, 3 years part-time

An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) in a cognate* discipline with at least credit (60%) average.

Or

An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) and an Australian graduate certificate (or equivalent) in a cognate* discipline with at least 50% average in both qualifications.

Entry level 3: 48 points to complete Duration: 1 years full-time, 2 years part-time

An Australian bachelor honours degree (or equivalent) in a cognate* discipline with at least credit (60%) average.

*Cognate disciplines include: linguistics, applied linguistics, language study or teaching, translation and interpreting, TESOL and speech pathology

English requirements

Applicants must also meet the English language requirements.

Fees are per 48 credit points which represents a standard full-time course load for a year. The fees for 2026 are:
