Journalism - A4013
Graduate certificate
We are surrounded by so much media that being a voice with integrity that cuts through the noise is a valuable and highly versatile communication skill. Learn to recognise professional journalism ethics in the pursuit of truth, accuracy and fairness, and explore further the skills, attitudes and values required of the democratic process and the public right to know. Be the voice that gives the public the truth and allows it to make up its own mind.
This course offers a critical foundation for understanding journalistic practice and theory. While aimed at emerging journalists, the course is also relevant for those wanting to learn essential skills in communications across a variety of platforms.
Throughout the course, you will explore the history, power and role of journalism in local and global contexts, and debate the challenges and vital issues surrounding journalism today. Develop essential skills in critical thinking, writing and presenting for multicultural settings which will enhance your career, as being able to write clearly and succinctly to communicate your story is highly regarded in every industry. You will also build core versatile skills in research and reporting for a global society, and learn how the detail in writing differs across digital media technologies and formats. By the end of the course, you will have sharpened your critical communication, research and interview skills, and the ability to critically analyse what you uncover.
Our program offers a combination of collaborative and self-directed learning which supports your development for future team-based and autonomous work. This course is taught by award-winning journalists and active researchers who will encourage and support you to further your career in journalism.
The Graduate Certificate of Journalism course is an essential foundation for further study in a Master of Journalism, and for those who seek continual improvement to enhance employability.
