Additional details
The Planetary Health Report Card (PHRC) is a student-led metric-based tool for evaluating and improving planetary health content in health professional schools globally. In 2024, Monash University developed the world-first metrics for the discipline of nutrition and dietetics. In 2025, ten nutrition and dietetic schools around the world completed the PHRC. By completing and reporting on progress, the PHRC can be used to incentivise and encourage more planetary health activities in teaching and campus life.

The successful applicant for this Summer Vacation Scholarship in February 2027 will use the metrics to document Monash Nutrition's work across 5 domains; planetary health curriculum, interdisciplinary research, institutional support, community outreach and advocacy, and campus sustainability. The successful applicant will work with students from pharmacy, physiotherapy and other disciplines at Monash who are also collecting data for their own PHRC. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to be recognised by the global PHRC team.

About you: To complete this project, you will be an effective team player. You will have excellent attention to detail, communication, organisational and project management skills. You will also have the ability to draw upon your knowledge of planetary health and sustainable development from NUT3006/NUT4001, NUT3082 and NUT5004 to apply to this real-world intervention.

Applicants must have completed 'NUT3006 Food Systems and Planetary Health' or 'NUT4001 Foundations for Dietetic Practice'.

Qualitative and quantitative research experience desirable however not essential.
Additional details
This project will involve collaboration with nutritionists and dietitians throughout Australia who were involved in either; (i) developing the PlanEATary Quest intervention in 2023, or (ii) implementing the PlanEATary Quest as an intervention with their colleagues or students.

There are two vacation scholarship positions available for this project. As a pair, you will examine how the PlanEATary Quest has been implemented since it was developed, whether it has been effective and under what circumstances. This will be a mixed-methods study, involving quantitative analysis of the pre-post survey results (n~1000) and qualitative interviews/focus groups with the nutritionists and dietitians who developed and/or have implemented the intervention.

There is an opportunity for the vacation scholarship students to contribute to ongoing research that may lead to co-authorship on a peer-reviewed publication.
