How to calculate your entry score
GCE A Levels
Total score by achieving one of the following:
- 3 A Level subjects, OR
- Only applicable to students who have completed 3 A Level subjects:
- 2 A Level subjects plus 2 AS Level subjects, OR
- Only applicable to students who have not completed 3 A level subjects:
- 2 A Level subjects, OR
- 2 A Level subjects plus 2 AS Level subjects, OR
- 2 A Level subjects plus 1 AS Level subject.
Other subject combinations cannot be used to determine whether the Monash course academic entry score has been satisfied.
Additional guidelines:
- AS Level subjects included in the calculation cannot be in the same subject area as any A Level subjects included in the calculation.
- A Level or AS Level subjects completed in the same subject area, including those completed more than once and awarded by various awarding bodies (Monash-accepted awarding bodies listed below), will be included only once in the calculation, with the highest achieved result considered. For example, if GCE English Language has been completed twice and awarded by Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel, only the subject with the highest achieved result will be included in the calculation.
- Score grades as follows:
- A Level subjects: A*(a*) = 5, A(a) = 5, B(b) = 4, C(c) = 3, D(d) = 2, E(e) = 1, U = 0.
- AS Level subjects: a(a) =2.5, b(b) =2, c(c) =1.5, d(d) =1, e(e) =0.5, U = 0.
- A maximum of 1 bonus point is offered when achieving A* in an A Level Subject.
- The following can be included in the calculation:
- Subjects awarded with a + symbol
- Level 3 Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) or Cambridge International Project Qualification (CIPQ) can be considered as an A Level subject in the calculation. Score grades as follows: A*(a*) = 5, A(a) = 5, B(b) = 4, C(c) = 3, D(d) = 2, E(e) = 1, U = 0.
- Cambridge Pre-U subjects can be considered as an A Level subject in the calculation. Score grades as follows: D1 = 5, D2 = 5, D3 = 5, M1 = 4, M2 = 4, M3 = 3, P1 = 3, P2 = 2, P3 = 1.
- The following cannot be included in the calculation and cannot be used to meet the Monash course prerequisite requirements:
- Subjects awarded with a # symbol
- Subjects graded with N (Narrow failure) or U (Unclassified)
GCE A Level and GCE AS Level qualifications must be awarded by one of the following:
- Cambridge International
- Pearson Edexcel
- Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA)
- Council for the Curriculum, Examinations & Assessment (CCEA)
- Oxford, Cambridge and RSA Examinations (OCR)
- Welsh Joint Education Committee (WJEC)
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
- Total points as awarded on the official final IB Diploma Programme Results issued by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO).
- The Diploma Certificate issued by the IBO must also be provided.
Advanced Placement
- Total of the best 2 Advanced Placement examinations as awarded on the Student Score Report* issued by the College Board.
- Minimum accepted score in each AP examination is 3.
- An official final academic transcript and evidence of successful completion of a Monash approved senior secondary school leaving qualification must also be provided (additional guidelines may apply).
*All AP examinations submitted to Monash University will be considered when calculating the entry score.
ACT
The final average is calculated by adding the best three section scores achieved across all ACT test attempted for the Math, English and Reading sections*, then dividing the total by three and rounding to the nearest whole number, as awarded on the Student Report^ issued by ACT. An official final academic transcript and evidence of successful completion of a Monash approved senior secondary school leaving qualification must also be provided (additional guidelines may apply).
*Science, STEM, Writing and ELA sections cannot be used in the calculation.
^All ACT tests submitted to Monash University will be considered when calculating the entry score. This means that the total average can be calculated across all ACT tests submitted to Monash University.
SAT - Total score out of 1600
Total score by adding the best section scores achieved in ‘Evidence Based Reading and Writing’ and ‘Math’ as awarded on the SAT Score Report* issued by the College Board. An official final academic transcript and evidence of successful completion of a Monash approved senior secondary school leaving qualification must also be provided (additional guidelines may apply).
All SAT examinations submitted to Monash University will be considered when calculating the entry score, provided the SAT is marked out of 1600.
Pearson International Advanced Levels
Total score by achieving one of the following:
- 3 International A Level subjects, OR
- Only applicable to students who have completed 3 International A Level subjects:
- 2 International A Level subjects plus 2 International AS Level subjects, OR
- Only applicable to students who have not completed 3 International A level subjects:
- 2 International A Level subjects, OR
- 2 International A Level subjects plus 2 International AS Level subjects, OR
- 2 International A Level subjects plus 1 International AS Level subject.
Other subject combinations cannot be used to determine whether the Monash course academic entry score has been satisfied.
Additional guidelines:
- International AS Level subjects included in the calculation cannot be in the same subject area as any International A Level subjects included in the calculation.
- Score grades as follows:
- A Level subjects: A*(a*) = 5, A(a) = 5, B(b) = 4, C(c) = 3, D(d) = 2, E(e) = 1, U = 0.
- AS Level subjects: a(a) = 2.5, b(b) = 2, c(c) = 1.5, d(d) = 1, e(e) = 0.5, U = 0.
- A maximum of 1 bonus point is offered when achieving A* in an A Level Subject.
- The following can be included in the calculation:
- Subjects awarded with a + symbol
- The following cannot be included in the calculation and cannot be used to meet the Monash course prerequisite requirements:
- Subjects awarded with a # symbol
- Subjects graded with N (Narrow failure) or U (Unclassified)
- Subject code that that starts with W
- GCE A Level and GCE AS Level subjects awarded by the following bodies can be combined and included in the above calculation with Pearson International A Levels and Pearson International AS Levels, where the same rules apply:
- Cambridge International
- Pearson Edexcel
- Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA)
- Council for the Curriculum, Examinations & Assessment (CCEA)
- Oxford, Cambridge and RSA Examinations (OCR)

Predicted results
Predicted results issued by Monash approved schools for the below listed qualifications may also be accepted into most undergraduate courses however higher entry scores and other guidelines apply:
- GCE A Levels
- IB Diploma Programme
- Singapore Cambridge GCE A Levels
The predicted result must be issued in the form of a statement on the institution’s letterhead, signed by the principal, teacher, school counsellor, registrar of the institution, or their authorised delegate (other guidelines apply).
Predicted results from some schools are not accepted however please provide your predicted result to Monash for consideration.
Predicted results are not accepted for entry into Faculty of Education undergraduate courses (including linked double degrees) and Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine.
ATAR
Final ATAR as awarded by the relevant Australian state Year 12 authority.
Monash University Foundation Year

Monash University Diploma Part 2

The entry score specified above is applicable to students who commence their undergraduate degree in 2028.
Monash Advanced Preparation Program

The entry score specified above is applicable to students who commence the MAPP program in 2027.
UNSW Foundation Program
- Final grade point average as awarded on the official final transcript issued by UNSW College.
- Evidence of successful completion must be provided.
Trinity College Foundation Studies
- Overall average of the best four subjects (excluding English for Academic Purposes) as awarded on the official final Statement of Results issued by Trinity College, The University of Melbourne.
- Evidence of successful completion is only satisfied when the following statement is included on the Statement of Results: These results represent satisfactory completion of Trinity College Foundation Studies.
Ontario Secondary School Diploma
- Overall average of percentage grades for the best six academic Grade 12 subjects* (excluding workplace preparation courses and open courses) as awarded on the Ontario Student Transcript issued by the Ontario Ministry of Education.
- Students must achieve a minimum total of 30 credits and complete Community Involvement and Provincial Secondary School Literacy Requirement.
- Evidence of successful completion issued by the Ontario Ministry of Education must be provided.
*The grade 12 subjects must be taken from the most recent completed Ontario Student Transcript issued by the Ontario Ministry of Education.
The Ontario Secondary School Diploma is only accepted from Monash approved schools only.
British Columbia Certificate of Graduation
- Overall average of Grade 12 subjects indicated in the ‘Final %’ column as awarded on the British Columbia Transcript of Grades awarded by the Ministry of Education and Child Care.
- Students must achieve a minimum total of 80 credits.
- Evidence of successful completion must be provided.
Gaokao
Total score achieved in the Gaokao examination converted into a 100% scale by dividing the total score achieved in the Gaokao with the maximum score published by the Department of Education in China for each Chinese province. The official final National College Entrance Examination (Gaokao) issued by the individual Chinese provincial examination authority must be provided.
Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education
- Total score of the best five subjects^ (Category A and C only) as awarded on the official final academic transcript issued by Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority.
Additional guidelines
- Scores graded as follows:
- Level 1 = 1, Level 2 = 2, Level 3 = 3, Level 4 = 4, Level 5 = 5, OR
- A = 5, B = 4, C = 3, D = 2, E = 1.
- From 2025 and onwards, score grades for Category C language subjects awarded on the HKDSE official final academic transcript issued by Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority as follows:
- Japanese: Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT): N1 = 5, N2 = 4, N3 = 3, N4 = 2, N5 = 1
- French: Diplôme d’Études de Langue Française (DELF) or Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française (DALF): C2 = 5, C1 = 5, B2 = 4, B1 = 3, A2 = 2, A1 = 1
- Spanish: Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera (DELE): C2 = 5, C1 = 5, B2 = 4, B1 = 3, A2 = 2, A1 = 1
- German: Goethe-Zertifikat: C2 = 5, C1 = 5, B2 = 4, B1 = 3, A2 = 2, A1 = 1
- Korean: Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK): Grade 6 = 5, Grade 5 = 5, Grade 4 = 4, Grade 3 = 3, Grade 2 = 2, Grade 1 = 1.
- A maximum of 1 bonus point is offered when achieving Level 5** or Level 5* in a HKDSE Category A subject.
- The highest grade will be used in the calculation in the event where individual subject examinations have been sat in multiple sittings
- Category B subjects and subjects that are competency based cannot be included in the calculation.
All India Senior School Certificate Examination
Overall average of the best four academic subjects (excluding Monash University approved non-academic subjects) and results indicated as ‘pass’ awarded on the official final 'Marks Statement' issued by the Central Board of Secondary Education.
Indian School Certificate Examination
Overall average of the best four academic subjects (excluding Monash University approved non-academic subjects) and results indicated as ‘pass certificate awarded’ awarded on the official final 'Statement of Marks' issued by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations.
SMA 3 – 100% scale (60% pass)
- Overall average of Semester 1 and Semester 2 Grade 12 knowledge and skills results as awarded on the official final transcript issued by individual senior secondary schools in Indonesia.
- Official grading scale and evidence of successful completion must be provided.
- All documents submitted must be translated and untranslated.
Monash University undergraduate entry scores vary for SMA 3 qualifications that are marked on differing grading scales.
STPM
- Total of the best three subjects, excluding Pengajian Am (General Studies) as awarded on the official final transcript issued by Majlis Peperiksaan Malaysia (Malaysian Examinations Council).
- All documents submitted must be translated and untranslated.
UEC
- Overall average of the best five subjects awarded on the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) Senior Middle Level issued by the United Chinese School Committees Associate of Malaysia (Dong Zong).
- Score grades as follows: A1 = 1, A2 = 2, B3 = 3, B4 = 4, B5 = 5, B6 = 6.
- Only grades A1, A2, B3, B4, B5 and B6 to be included in calculation. C7, C8 and F9 cannot be included in the calculation.
- Five subjects must be included in the calculation with a score of B6 grade or higher in each subject.
- A score of A1 is the highest score.
High School Diploma (Bằng Tốt Nghiệp Trung Học Phổ Thông)
- Overall average of all Grade 12 subjects as awarded on the official final transcript issued by individual senior secondary schools in Vietnam.
- The temporary/provisional high school graduation certificates (Giay Chung Nhan Tot Nghiep THPT (Tam thoi)) issued by the relevant provincial education and training department OR official Vietnamese High School Diploma graduation certificate (BẰNG TỐT NGHIỆP TRUNG HỌC PHỔ THÔNG) must be provided as evidence of successful completion.
- All documents submitted must be translated and untranslated.
Higher School Certificate and General Certificate of Education Advanced Levels
Total score by achieving either:
*A maximum of the best 3 A Level subjects completed in one sitting^. In the event where only 1 A Level subject has been completed (and no other A Level subjects have been completed), 2 AS Level subjects can be counted in place of 1 A Level subject however the AS Level subject must not be in the same subject area as the A Level subjects included in the calculation.
OR
*A minimum of the best 2 A Level subjects completed in one sitting^ plus the best 2 AS Level subjects. The AS Level subjects however must not be in the same subject area as the A Level subjects included in the calculation.
^3 A Level subjects as well as 2 AS level subjects (General Paper is a compulsory AS level subject) are completed in one examination sitting. It is possible however to undertake a minimum of 2 A Level subjects and 3 AS level subjects (General Paper is a compulsory AS level subject) in one examination sitting.
Additional guidelines:
- Score grades as follows:
- A Level subjects: A*(a*) = 5, A(a) = 5, B(b) = 4, C(c) = 3, D(d) = 2, E(e) = 1, U = 0.
- AS Level subjects: a(a) =2.5, b(b) =2, c(c) =1.5, d(d) =1, e(e) =0.5, U = 0.
- S (sub-pass) results are not to be included in the calculation.
- A maximum of 1 bonus point is offered when achieving A* in an A Level Subject.
Singapore Cambridge GCE Advanced Levels
Total score by achieving one of the following:
- 3 H2 Level subjects, OR
- Only applicable to students who have completed 3 H2 Level subjects:
- o 2 H2 Level subjects plus 2 H1 Level subjects, OR
- Only applicable to students who have not completed 3 H2 level subjects:
- o 2 H2 Level subjects, OR
- o 2 H2 Level subjects plus 2 H1 Level subjects, OR
- o 2 H2 Level subjects plus 1 H1 Level subject.
Other subject combinations cannot be used to determine whether the Monash course academic entry score has been satisfied.
Additional guidelines
- H1 Level subjects included in the calculation must not be in the same subject area as any H2 Level subjects included in the calculation.
- Score grades as follows:
- H2 Level subjects: A=5, B= 4, C=3, D=2, E=1
- H1 Level subjects: A=2.5, B=2, C=1.5, D=1, E=0.5
- A maximum of 1 bonus point is offered when achieving a ‘Distinction’ in a H3 Level subject
- The following can be included in the calculation:
- Subjects awarded with a + symbol.
- Subjects specified under 'Advanced Level Pass' on the Singapore Cambridge General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Levels (A Level) examination certificate can be considered as a H2 level subject. Score grades as follow: A=5, B= 4, C=3, D=2, E=1
- The following cannot be included in the calculation and cannot be used to meet the Monash course prerequisite requirements:
- Subjects awarded with a # symbol
- Subjects graded with S (sub-pass) and U (ungraded)
- H1 Project Work graded on A to E grading scale can be included in the calculation. H1 Project Work graded on a pass and fail grading scale cannot be included in the calculation.
- H1 Chinese Language and H1 Chinese Language (Oral/Aural) are considered as one subject. The grade for H1 Chinese Language reflects the overall total mark, which includes the oral/aural component. Therefore, only the H1 Chinese Language grade (which is graded on an A to E scale) can be included in the calculation. The H1 Chinese Language (Oral/Aural) subject, which is graded on a Distinction, Merit, Pass, or Ungraded scale, cannot be included in the calculation.
College Scholastic Ability Test
- Total score of the best 4 subjects (refer to the ‘standard score’) as awarded on the official final College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) awarded by the Korean Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation.
- Korean History, English and vocational education stream subjects can not be included in the calculation.
High School Diploma
- Overall average of Grade 10, 11 and 12 academic subjects including fails (excluding non-academic subjects) as awarded on the official final transcript issued by individual high schools in South Korea.
- The official graduation certificate issued by individual high schools in South Korea must be provided as evidence of successful completion.
- Official translated and untranslated academic documentation must be provided.
Sri Lankan General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level)
- Total score of a maximum of the best 3 A Level subjects taken in one examination sitting*
- Score A Level grades as follows: A = 5, B = 4, C = 3, S = 1, F = 0
- The official final GCE A Level official statement issued by the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka must be submitted.
*A minimum of 3 subjects are taken in one examination sitting.
