Green Chemistry and Sustainable Technologies - S6006
Master's degree
The Master of Green Chemistry and Sustainable Technologies prepares the next generation of chemists and engineers to lead industry transformation — developing the expertise to design cleaner processes, build sustainable systems, and deliver the products that a resource-constrained world demands.
As a student in this program, you will have the opportunity to design and implement new products and processes that will highlight the role that chemistry has to play in addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Through the program you will gain a deep understanding of what it takes to eliminate hazardous substances from the design, manufacture and application of chemical products.
The result: graduates ready to lead the environmental, economic and social transformation of the chemical industries of the future.
The course also includes an industry internship, consultancy project, and research projects. The completion of a full-time semester-long research project or equivalent provides a direct pathway to a PhD.
Designed for maximum flexibility, the program welcomes students from a broad range of backgrounds including chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, biotechnology, pharmaceutical sciences and food science. That same flexibility extends to your career: graduates go on to roles spanning industrial R&D, sustainability consulting, regulatory affairs, policy, and beyond - roles at the forefront of contributions towards sustainable development to meet the needs of the future.
Career Outcomes
As a graduate of the Master of Green Chemistry and Sustainable Technologies you will find many career opportunities open to you in a range of areas, including roles within:
- process development and pharmaceutical companies
- food, cosmetics and cleaning product manufacturers
- agrochemical and polymer industries
- manufacturing, environmental and sustainable services
- private and public biotech companies
- research institutes, including the CSIRO
- government agencies and consultancies
