Graduate certificate
The Graduate Certificate of Legal Studies is designed to equip non-lawyers with the legal skills and knowledge they need to make better managerial and commercial decisions and to lead their organisations effectively. As a graduate certificate legal studies student, you will receive a theoretical and practical grounding in a variety of legal areas and gain a competitive edge in your chosen career.
The aim of this course is to:
- Strengthen your knowledge in a specific area of law relevant to you
- Help develop your skills in information synthesis and critical analysis and apply them in professional and public decision-making
- Improve your ability to articulate persuasive arguments, reasoning and conclusions about legal topics to legal professionals and broader audiences
The Graduate Certificate of Legal Studies is a 24 credit point course, equivalent to four units of study worth 6 credit points each. With more than 40 units to choose from, you can tailor your experience in line with your interests and aspirations.
Study areas include international and Indigenous law; privacy and surveillance; environmental law and climate change law; terrorism and human rights legal issues; and workplace law including topics such as discrimination law and labour law.
The flexibility of the Graduate certificate legal studies allows you to complete it in as little as six months or take up to three years if needed, depending on your personal and professional commitments.

Qualifications
An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent qualification), or a minimum of three years relevant work experience approved by the faculty.

Enrolment Obligations
International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than one third (33%) of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students must enrol in at least one unit that is not by distance and/or online in each compulsory study period unless the student is completing the last unit of their course.
