How is behavioural insight important in this course?
This course requires you to demonstrate personal insight and self-management in order to make decisions and respond to the needs of adolescents, young adults, parents/carers and colleagues.
You will be required to:
- work under pressure, multi-task, and retain a professional demeanour
- critically reflect on performance feedback provided, actions and decisions taken, and consider alternative courses of action
Your ability to demonstrate professional capabilities, including a commitment to treat people with dignity and respect, and awareness of the limits of your own knowledge, skills and health. You will also be required to comply with applicable law, regulations and any other university codes or policies.

How is professionalism important in this course?
This course requires you to be accountable and responsible for your professional behaviour, including in the wider community.
Your ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with a range of audiences including verbal, non-verbal, written and numerical communication.

How is communication important in this course?
This course requires you to have good communication and interpersonal skills, these are essential for building positive relationships with and working effectively, sensitively and confidentially with adolescents, young adults, colleagues, parents/carers, other professionals and community members.
You will be required to:
- interact with all age groups from adolescents to older people
- provide clear instruction and explanations tailored to the needs of adolescents and young adults
Your ability to work willingly and cohesively as part of a team, taking responsibility for your actions as well as recognising and respecting the skills of others.

How is teamwork important in this course?
This course requires you to work both independently and collaboratively in settings which can be unpredictable and challenging.
You will be required to:
- demonstrate empathy and sensitivity to other people’s feelings and experiences
- be aware of and positively manage the dynamics of social interactions
Your capacity to locate appropriate and relevant information and your ability to process information relevant to practice and the ability to integrate, reflect on and implement theoretical knowledge in a range of settings.

How is cognition important in this course?
This course requires you to understand learners and how they learn; know content areas and how to teach them; plan effective teaching and learning experiences; assess learning; and apply theory in practice.
You will be required to:
- design experiences that support adolescent and young adult’s learning and their social, emotional and physical development
- interpret and correctly apply data, measurements and other criteria to assess learning
Your ability to acquire information, carry out a range of tasks and procedures suitable to the required level of capability, and understand and carry out your assigned role in adverse situations.
Subdomains: Fine or gross motor skills; Strength.
How are physical and observational skills important in this course?
This course requires you to have physical, motor and sensory capabilities to provide learning experiences and safely supervise adolescents and young adults. Visual observations and assessments are fundamental to a safe and effective practice.
You will be required to:
- perform physically and mentally at a consistent and sustained level during Professional Experience
- make visual observations to assess learning and keep adolescents and young adults safe.
