These inherent requirements apply to the Bachelor of Paramedicine (course code M2011).

Your ability to recognise and moderate your behaviour and respond in ways that are appropriate in a diverse range of environments.
Subdomains: Self-reflection, Accountability and Adaptability.
How is behavioural insight important in this course?
You will be required to:
- Have the self-awareness and reflection skills required to monitor your own physical and mental health, recognise when you may need help or support and proactively seek it when required. For example, being open to feedback from others when they have observed changes in your health.
- Demonstrate professional behaviour when engaging with individuals in the clinical setting. For example, being receptive and responding appropriately to constructive feedback.
- Have the physical and mental endurance to perform multiple tasks in an assigned timeframe. For example, management of a number of patients over a negotiated time frame while on clinical placement.
- Recognise, interpret and respond appropriately to non-verbal and clinical cues which can change quickly and often in a health care setting. For example, be able to adapt behaviour, communication or approach.
Your ability to demonstrate professional capabilities, including a commitment to treat people with dignity and respect, and awareness of the limits of your own knowledge, skills and health. You will also be required to comply with applicable law, regulations and any other university codes or policies.

How is professionalism important in this course?
You will be required to:
- Engage respectfully with patients, peers, educators and health practitioners from a wide range of orientations, backgrounds and cultures and treat each individual with dignity. For example, handle appropriately sensitive and confidential information in clinical and classroom settings and recognise this extends beyond the teaching environment.
- Weigh up competing ethical principles in difficult situations, such as deciding whether to report if you see someone behaving in a manner not aligned with good ethical and professional standards.
Your ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with a range of audiences including verbal, non-verbal, written and numerical communication.

How is communication important in this course?
You will be required to:
- Understand and respond to communication accurately, appropriately. For example, establishing rapport with patients during the provision of care.
- Responding appropriately to cues in the clinical environment.
- Communicate effectively in two-way discussions with a range of different people in a range of different settings. For example, gathering information from patients and others, accurate recording and documentation of information gathered and being able to provide explanations and health information to others.
Your ability to work willingly and cohesively as part of a team, taking responsibility for your actions as well as recognising and respecting the skills of others.

How is teamwork important in this course?
You will be required to:
Work effectively with others. For example, direct, or follow directions from, a team of other health professionals using appropriate verbal and non-verbal skills for the care of an acutely ill patient.
Your capacity to locate appropriate and relevant information and your ability to process information relevant to practice and the ability to integrate, reflect on and implement theoretical knowledge in a range of settings.

How is cognition important in this course?
You will be required to:
- Provision safe, effective and timely health care. For example, applying knowledge of theory, research evidence, policies and procedures in the health care setting.
- Perform accurate drug calculations.
- Demonstrate accurate interpretation of patient's biochemistry.
Your ability to acquire information, carry out a range of tasks and procedures suitable to the required level of capability, and understand and carry out your assigned role in adverse situations.
Subdomains: Fine or gross motor skills; Strength.
How are physical and observational skills important in this course?
You will be required to:
- Carry out procedures. For example, being able to lift, carry, hold, stand, rotate, push, pull and manipulate various objects and individuals such as undertaking cannulation to move patients safely.
- Detect any changes in circulation observations e.g., temperature and pulse palpation.
- Conduct a physical assessment and detect any anatomical abnormalities.
- Have the physical and mental endurance to perform multiple tasks in an assigned timeframe. For example, management of a number of patients over a negotiated time frame while on clinical placement.
