How is behavioural insight important in this course?
You will be required to:
- Maintain your own wellbeing to the level that ensures you can effectively carry out your studies in an intensive Master’s degree, and seek support if required from Monash University support services.
- Reflect on your interactions with peers and staff to foster a positive and harmonious laboratory and learning environment.
- Self-regulate your behaviour and demonstrate a mature approach to all teaching activities associated with the course and during your observership, particularly sensitive topics, hearing different viewpoints and hearing personal information from peers in learning situations.
Your ability to demonstrate professional capabilities, including a commitment to treat people with dignity and respect, and awareness of the limits of your own knowledge, skills and health. You will also be required to comply with applicable law, regulations and any other university codes or policies.

How is professionalism important in this course?
You will be required to:
- Adhere to the Professionalism Code of Practice for Master of Clinical Embryology students (and the ProFESS framework).
- Comply with national legislation (Prohibition of human cloning for reproduction Act 2002 and Research involving human embryos Act 2002), national guidelines (NHMRC ethical guidelines for ART) and Victorian legislation (ART Act 2008).
- Comply with professional expectations as outlined by the university, in particular behavioural expectations and ethical conduct.

You will be required to:
- Effectively communicate in a multi-disciplinary team and appropriately interact with experts involved in the course (eg clinicians, researchers, counsellors, embryologists).
- Develop the skill of converting complex scientific concepts into patient-appropriate communications.
- Demonstrate respect for patient information and empathy when discussing sensitive reproductive topics and results, particularly with unfavourable outcomes.

You will be required to:
- Be a valuable and reliable team member for group activities and assessment tasks, including (but not limited to) contributing in a meaningful way, attending planned meetings, completing designated tasks, communicating effectively with peers and making an equal contribution to the workload of the task.
- Work effectively and collaborate with your practical supervisor, research supervisor and associated student groups.
- Demonstrate skills in conflict resolution, troubleshooting, problem-solving and addressing issues in a team situation as they arise, including an awareness of when to escalate externally to staff.
- When communicating in a clinical lab during your observership be aware of the team environment you have entered, be respectful of others and communicate only when it is not a distraction to others as they work.

You will be required to:
- Commit to independent learning, critical thinking and the continued development of knowledge and skills.

- Reflect on your own performance, be prepared to seek assistance in self-identified areas of weakness and seek and respond to constructive feedback.
- Develop and extend your literacy and numeracy (e.g. statistical analysis, success rates) in fertility and reproduction by using tools and resources in an effective manner while maintaining academic integrity.

How are physical and observational skills important in this course?
You will be required to:
- Competently perform key practical skills (often fine motor skills) associated with assisted reproduction in a student laboratory setting.
- Commit to the high number of practical hours associated with the course to maximise your opportunity to train and master practical and research skills.
- Develop a high level of attention to detail to competently manage a laboratory environment that supports the creation, growth and development of embryos, including observing external factors that impact embryo competency that arise from the laboratory or surrounding environment.
