About theatre and performance studies

Take advantage of innovative facilities, outstanding opportunities, professional engagement and hands-on practical learning as you explore all aspects of creating and performing theatre.

Develop a deep understanding of performance making and critical theory. Work with a range of industry professionals to develop and present your own creative works. Use your skills to address the critical questions and problems of our age. You will also develop a practical understanding of storytelling, role-playing, empathy, improvisation, team reliance and resilience, also sought-after skills in the 21st century workplace.

The theatre and performance studies minor at Monash gives you valuable experience in collaboration, creative problem-solving, and effective communication, all highly ranked employability attributes inside and outside the performing arts industry. You’ll learn from theatre professionals, gain exposure to the world of Australian and international theatre, and rapidly develop your craft as a performer, director, stage manager or producer. The craft, intuitive ability, confidence and contacts you’ll develop will serve you throughout your career as a theatre maker.

In addition, our partnership with the Melbourne Fringe Festival offers internships and opportunities to work alongside leading theatre artists. You will be mentored in all aspects of production and programming, with the chance to present your own work at the festival, gaining direct industry exposure and building valuable professional connections.
