Collaborative design
Print & ShareYour qualification will be a Bachelor of Collaborative Design
The Bachelor of Collaborative Design responds to an increasing need for design professionals with blended skill sets, undefined by a single discipline.
Collaborative design is about harnessing the collective wisdom and creativity of a community to address complex challenges. It embodies the principles of empathy, equity, and excellence, striving to create outcomes that are beneficial for all stakeholders involved.
Through this collaborative endeavour, collaborative designers aim to achieve outcomes that are more than just functional or aesthetically pleasing; they seek to create solutions that are sustainable, inclusive, and have a lasting positive impact on society.
What is collaborative design?
Collaborative design is about working with others rather than for others. It's the art of bringing diverse minds together to conceive and actualise something new.
Collaborative designers are experts in crafting spaces where participants feel valued and empowered to share their unique perspectives and experiences. This participatory approach ensures that the design process is democratised, allowing for solutions that are innovative, equitable, and responsive to the needs and aspirations of the community involved.
What will I be doing in this specialisation?
You’ll adopt working methods that will actively involve others in the design process, sharing power and fostering inclusion. You’ll refine your ability to develop participatory processes, establishing strong, respectful, and equitable working relationships with peers, academics, and, eventually, with clients, users, stakeholders, and more.
Under the guidance of a diverse array of academics, researchers, and industry experts, our design studios address complex issues aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Through discussions, consultations, and investigative work, you’ll respond to global challenges by designing interventions with the potential to have a positive social impact. Projects will cover a wide range of outputs, including tangible products, experiences, services, and storytelling.
You’ll graduate with a Bachelor of Collaborative Design, which is recognised by the Design Institute of Australia (DIA). You’ll have the skills necessary to lead, facilitate, and innovate within collaborative environments, equipping you for success both during your academic journey and in your professional career.
