Politics and Governance - XS0274
Politics and Governance
Print & ShareThe study of politics and governance addresses important questions about the nature of power, authority, and governance: who gets what, when, and how. But politics is more than this—it also concerns notions of freedom and agency in situations of social choice. Politics and governance is an excellent discipline for exploring the interrelationships in the human world and for developing a diverse range of interpretive and analytic skills. The discipline is engaged in critical debates about governance, policy creation and administration, social behaviour and political action (including electoral processes), as well as the management or resolution of conflict, including relations between states.
In this specialisation, you’ll analyse government, policy, and leadership, exploring debates about development, international relations, and the political economy of globalisation and global governance. You’ll also make comparative analyses of political systems in different countries and critically assess the ideas and ideologies shaping contemporary visions of just societies.
And in your third year, you can apply for the chance to be one of only 13 students selected for a prestigious internship at the Parliament of Victoria! This immersive, hands-on experience allows you to work alongside influential politicians and top academics, gaining practical insights into politics and governance. As part of the internship, you’ll also craft a 6,000-word public policy research report, which will be housed in the Parliamentary Library after assessment—an impressive and valuable addition to your academic portfolio!
