PhD graduates are employed in many areas including the pharmaceutical, manufacturing, biomedical and chemical industry, research institutes, government and military sectors.

A PhD in Pharmacy enables you to complete an extensive, independent research project on an agreed chosen topic, supported by at least two expert academic supervisors.. Your study will result in a research thesis which makes a valuable contribution to the current body of knowledge on your chosen topic.

Additional complementary activities in our program toenhance your research experience may include:

  • Rotation program – take part in research rotations before selecting your thesis project and supervisor
  • Placement program – spend an extended period outside of Monash with a collaborating group

Course Handbook

A PhD in pharmacy requires you to complete a research thesis (or alternative approved output) of no more than 80,000 words. Research programs are offered in:

  • Drug discovery biology
  • Medicinal chemistry
  • Drug delivery, disposition and dynamics
  • Medicine use and safety
  • Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences Education

The research will be supplemented with discipline-specific training.

The PhD program is offered to elite applicants with high academic standing, normally a Master's degree or an honours degree at H1 or H2A level in a relevant discipline.

Fees

Research Training Program (RTP)

This course is supported by the Australian government's Research Training Program (RTP). Under the RTP, domestic students are awarded an RTP Fees Offset which covers the cost of course tuition fees. The estimated annual value of Australian Government support for an RTP Fees Offset is published on the University Graduate Research Scholarships website. The RTP Fees Offset duration is equivalent to the course duration, based on your commencement date and no more than 4 years (FTE) for students enrolled in Doctoral courses and no more than 2 years (FTE) for students enrolled in research Masters courses.
