Dr Aunty Doris Paton Indigenous Accommodation Scholarship
The Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences is offering the Dr Aunty Doris Paton Scholarship for Indigenous Students to support them to live on campus whilst studying at Monash. This scholarship honours the inspiring leadership and contribution Aunty Doris, a Ngarigo Monero, Gunai Elder has made to Indigenous education, health and wellbeing.
If you are an Indigenous Australian intending to enrol or currently studying in the Faculty of Medicine Nursing and Health Sciences, you may be eligible for this scholarship. It covers up to $10,000 of the cost of one year’s accommodation at Monash University Accommodation.

MRS Accommodation Scholarship
The Monash Residential Services Accommodation scholarship provided much needed financial relief. As a rural student and a first-in-family to attend university, there were many changes that were coming for my first year of university that were stressful, thankfully because of this scholarship, financial stress was not as high allowing me to fully dedicate my time to my studies and enjoying life as a young person in a new, big city.
Am I eligible?
You must be one of the following:
- An Australian citizen
You must meet the following criteria:
- Commencing or continuing student enrolled in an undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Medicine Nursing and Health Sciences at a Monash campus in Australia.
- Intending to reside at Monash University Accommodation on any campus. You must apply directly to Monash University Accommodation for on-campus accommodation.
- To be eligible you must provide a Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Heritage certificate or a certified Statutory Declaration form to the William Cooper Institute. - Accommodation fees to the value of $10,000 paid for one year only directly to Monash University Accommodation.
- Participate in the Faculty Indigenous Vertical Peer Program.
- Accommodation over the summer months in Monash University Accommodation may be available, but you must notify MRS of your intentions early in the semester (Scholarship extension is subject to faculty approval).

- Preference will be given to commencing students.
To retain this scholarship:
- You must reside in Monash University Accommodation
- You must provide a community reference
- You must participate in the Faculty Indigenous Vertical Peer Program
How to apply
- VTAC applicants - If you think you might be eligible for an equity scholarship, ensure that you apply for the VTAC equity schemes (SEAS) to be automatically considered.
- For current Monash students apply directly to Monash.
- This scholarship cannot be deferred.
