Achieving Potential Support Scholarship

The Michael John Smith Scholarship has been established to provide support for commencing female Faculty of Engineering students who are experiencing difficult personal circumstances. This scholarship has been established by the Smith family in honour of the late Mr Michael John Smith, and his legacy as an egalitarian with a strong sense of justice. As an alumni of Monash University (Mechanical Engineering), Michael was one of four engineers who established Vipac Engineers and Scientists Ltd in 1973. Today, Vipac is an international engineering company specialising in acoustics, vibration and wind.

Pauline Gandel Scholarship

Coming from regional Victoria, receiving this scholarship, has reduced the pressure on me to rely solely on working to pay for the living expenses associated with being away from home. This has allowed me to dedicate more time to my studies as well as to other things to promote my leadership skills, such as through the Access Monash mentoring program. This opportunity has only helped encourage my passion to learn, and become a better leader.

Am I eligible?

You must be one of the following:

  • An Australian citizen

You must meet the following criteria:

  • Commencing  female student intending to enrol in an undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Engineering at a Monash campus in Australia.
  • Experiencing financial hardship.

Benefits

  • $6000 per annum (48 credit points of study) for the duration of your degree.

Number offered

  • One scholarship available every 5 years.

Selection criteria

  • Awarded based on need.
  • Consideration will  be given to students
    • From a regional and remote area of Australia
    • Have a disability or long term medical condition
    • Experiencing difficult circumstances

To retain this scholarship:

  • You must maintain a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 50 each semester.
