Achieving Potential Scholarship for Distinction
The Santa Singh and Balwant Kaur Scholarship is generously supported by Pretam Kaur in honour of her parents’ commitment to the education of women, and provides financial support and encouragement to Indigenous and recent refugee women pursuing undergraduate studies at Monash University.

Achieving Potential Indigenous Support Scholarship
The Achieving Potential Indigenous Support Scholarship has allowed me to focus on my studies without worrying about taking on more work or making educational sacrifices.
This scholarship has also strengthened my connection to the William Cooper Institute, which has almost become a second home. The other students are lovely, and the staff are super supportive and helpful.
Am I eligible?
You must be one of the following:
- An Australian citizen
- An International student
You must meet the following criteria:
- A commencing or continuing undergraduate or postgraduate (coursework) student enrolled at a Monash campus in Australia.
- Identify as female:
- Asylum Seeker/Refugee or Permanent Humanitarian Visa OR
- An Indigenous Australian
- Consideration will be given to students from one or more of Monash University’s defined equity or personal disadvantage groups (for domestic students only)
- from regional and remote areas of Australia
- experiencing financial hardship
- Living with a disability or medical condition
- experiencing difficult family and life circumstances
- For Indigenous students to be eligible you must provide a Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Heritage certificate or a certified Statutory Declaration form to the William Cooper Institute. Benefits
- $8000 per annum (48 credit points of study), paid until the minimum points for your degree are completed.
Number offered
- Two scholarships available at any one time for Indigenous women.
- Two scholarships available at one time for Asylum Seeker/Refugee or Permanent Humanitarian Visa women.
Selection criteria
- Awarded on the basis of need.
To retain this scholarship:
- You must maintain a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 50 or above each semester.
How to apply
- This scholarship cannot be deferred.
- VTAC applicants - If you think you might be eligible for an equity scholarship, ensure that you apply for the VTAC equity schemes (SEAS) to be automatically considered.
- For current Monash students apply directly to Monash.
