Does the Arts – Education Studies pathway include work placement?
Yes. As part of your Education Studies units, you’ll complete 10 days of professional work placement, giving you practical experience in an education setting alongside your academic studies.

How long does the Arts – Education Studies pathway take to complete?
Part 1 is completed over two trimesters across nine months. Part 2, which includes the Education Studies specialisation, is also completed over two trimesters across nine months. Students entering directly into Part 2 complete the Education Studies pathway in nine months.

What can I do after completing the Arts – Education Studies pathway?
International students who successfully complete Part 2 can progress directly into the second year of their eligible Monash University destination degree, subject to meeting the required progression requirements. The pathway is designed to prepare students for an education double degree and future study towards a career in primary or secondary education.

How much does the Diploma of Arts – Education Studies pathway cost?

How do I apply for the Arts – Education Studies pathway?
First, apply for the Diploma of Arts and check that you meet the entry requirements and subject prerequisites for Part 2. To undertake the Education Studies pathway, you’ll need to select either the Psychology or Sociology stream and complete the required Education Studies units and professional work placement as part of your diploma.

To be accepted into a Diploma of Arts - Education, you must meet the academic and English language requirements.You will also need to check the age, subject and course prerequisites before you apply.

Minimum age requirements

To enrol in this course, you must meet the following minimum age requirements:

  • Part 1:  At least 16 years of age at the time of enrolment
  • Part 2: At least 16 years and 6 months of age at the time of enrolment

If you do not meet the minimum age requirement, you may be offered a deferred place until you become eligible.

  • If your English test scores do not meet the minimum requirements, you may wish to consider enrolling in a Monash English course to help you meet the entry standard.
  • English test results must be completed within three years prior to your Monash course start date (other conditions may apply).
  • If you have completed multiple English measures, the highest valid measure will be considered.
  • Monash University reserves the right to request an additional English test to confirm you meet the English entry requirements.

Part 1

Part 1 is completed over two trimesters across nine months. During Part 1, you’ll study six core units and two elective unit on Arts and Social Sciences, designed to build your foundational knowledge and prepare you for Part 2 in the Diploma of Arts Education stream.

Part 2

Designed for students interested in a future in primary or secondary education.  
As part of this stream, you’ll complete:

  • Two Education Studies units (with a focus either on primary or secondary education)
  • 10 days of professional work placement

Note: The Education Studies stream is only available to students in the Psychology or Sociology streams of the Diploma of Arts.

You may apply to transfer from another Monash course. Transfers are a competitive process. You may apply mid-year for available courses however consideration will be given as to whether you will be able to follow your course progression.

Enrolment Obligations

International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than one third (33%) of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students must enrol in at least one unit that is not by distance and/or online in each compulsory study period unless the student is completing the last unit of their course. See standard 8.19 and 8.20 of National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2018.
