You need to satisfy the following entrance requirements to be considered for entry to this course.
Minimum Entry Requirements
Entry to the Monash University Foundation Year program is open to international students only.
Age entry requirement
Students must be at least 16 years of age when they first enrol for the Foundation Year program.
If applicants do not meet the above criteria, but would otherwise have been offered a place, they will be offered a deferred place to be taken up when the age criterion is met.
Please note that students must be at least 17 years of age when commencing at Monash University.
Academic entry requirement
Applicants must have an Australian Year 11 or equivalent qualification to enter the Foundation Year program.
Students must achieve at least an average grade in English and other subjects as specified in subject prerequisites.More information regarding entrance requirements can be found on the Foundation Year website.

International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than one third (33%) of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students must enrol in at least one unit that is not by distance and/or online in each compulsory study period unless the student is completing the last unit of their course. Foundation Year includes a range of subjects to suit your interests and goals.
When choosing your subjects, you should:
- carefully read the course structure and subject information on this page
- check the prerequisite subjects for your chosen degree
- make an appointment with your Head of Studies when you arrive if you have questions or need advice.
To successfully complete the Standard, Intensive or Extended programs you need to pass eight units or more.
Your unit combination must include:
- Unit 1 and 2 of English
- Unit 1 and 2 of two other subjects
- and at least two additional units.
Please note that units specific to the Extended program are additional subjects and are not included in your final Foundation Year score.
