Advanced Nursing

Master's degree

This course, offered by Nursing and Midwifery, prepares nurses and midwives for leadership roles in management, education, disaster management and leadership, palliative and end of life, trauma nursing and advanced midwifery. You will develop advanced practice knowledge and leadership in specialist practice including skills to plan, implement, coordinate and evaluate health care, as well as the ability to formulate policy for a diverse and multicultural society. Graduates are employed in a wide range of general and specialist clinical, educational and healthcare environments in senior positions and contribute to the health of individuals, families and communities, in addition to the development of the profession.

Progression to further studies

Students entering at Entry levels 1 and 2 can complete a research thesis (24 points) that will provide a pathway to a higher degree by research.

Students who complete 24 points from a particular specialisation in Part A will have the name of the specialisation on their transcript.

You need to satisfy the following entrance requirements to be considered for entry to this course.

Minimum Entry Requirements (International students)

Qualifications

Entry level 1: 96 points to complete

Duration: 2 years full-time, 4 years part-time.

For Healthcare in disasters, Advanced nursing studies, Education in healthcare, Leadership and management in healthcare, Palliative and end of life care, Trauma nursing specialisations:

  • An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) in Nursing with at least a credit (60%) average.

OR

For Advanced midwifery specialisation:

  • An Australian bachelor degree or graduate diploma (or equivalent) in Midwifery with at least a credit (60%) average.

Entry level 2: 72 points to complete

Duration: 1.5 years full-time, 3 years part-time.

For Healthcare in disasters, Advanced nursing studies, Education in healthcare, Leadership and management in healthcare, Palliative and end of life care, Trauma nursing specialisations:

  • An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) in Nursing with at least a credit (60%) average, and a minimum of two years of full-time equivalent relevant professional experience in nursing.

OR

For Advanced midwifery specialisation:

  • An Australian bachelor degree or graduate diploma (or equivalent) in Midwifery with at least a credit (60%) average, and a minimum of two years of full-time equivalent relevant professional experience in midwifery.

Entry level 3: 48 points to complete

Duration: 1.0 years full-time, 2 years part-time.

For Healthcare in disasters, Advanced nursing studies, Education in healthcare, Leadership and management in healthcare, Palliative and end of life care, Trauma nursing specialisations:

  • An Australian bachelor honours degree (or equivalent) in Nursing with at least a credit (60%) average.

OR

For Advanced midwifery specialisation:

  • An Australian bachelor honours degree (or equivalent) in Midwifery with at least a credit (60%) average.

Level B
IELTS (Academic): 6.5 Overall score, with minimum band scores: Listening 6.5, Reading 6.5, Writing 6.0 and Speaking 6.0 or Pearson Test of English (Academic):  58 Overall score, with minimum scores: Listening 58, Reading 58, Speaking 50 and Writing 50 or TOEFL iBT:

0 - 120 scale:
79 Overall score, with minimum scores: Reading 19, Listening 20, Speaking 18 and Writing 21

1 - 6 scale:
4 Overall score, with minimum scores: Reading 4, Listening 4.5, Speaking 3.5 and Writing 4.5

 or Courses that require English Level A only: Other approved English tests (minimum entry scores apply)

Enrolment Obligations
