Are you a finance professional looking to progress your career pathways in quantitative finance? This double degree grows your understanding of global financial markets and investment – along with your specialist skills in financial modelling, forecasting, big data and analytics giving you a unique edge in investment banking, portfolio management, risk management and quantitative trading and research.

Over the course of this two-year double degree, you’ll advance your training in econometrics and quantitative analysis to solve finance and economic challenges. This includes building on your ability to critically analyse, solve problems and develop innovative solutions to a range of contemporary business issues – especially those that influence the finance industry.

The program will sharpen your understanding of financial markets and investments, valuation, trading and risk management, as well as ethics, environmental and corporate social responsibility. You’ll also have the chance to explore in-depth investment banking, asset management and financial technology and sustainability.

Over the course of the program you’ll become more familiar with the latest econometric, statistical and data analytics tools. More specifically, how you can use these tools to apply data-driven solutions in areas including empirical economics and finance, risk analysis, forecasting, health economics, energy, and climate change.

The course will further your expertise in one of the following themes:

  • Macro and financial econometrics
  • Micro and health econometrics
  • Data analytics for energy and climate

At the same time the Master of Advanced Finance will give you insights into the industry – and provide you with the opportunity to explore areas as diverse as fintech, environmental finance and big data.

CFA Affiliation

Monash University is part of the CFA Institute University Affiliation Program and the Master of Advanced Finance is recognised by the CFA Institute, the global association for investment professionals that awards the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) designation.

This means the Master of Advanced Finance course covers a minimum of 70 percent of all three topic levels of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge, thus assisting students in preparing for the CFA exams.

Minimum Entry Requirements (Domestic students)

Qualifications

An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) with a major or minor* in finance with at least a high credit (65%) average or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA) and must have passed a 1st year statistics or mathematics unit or equivalent.

An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) and having passed the level I CFA examination or equivalent membership of a recognised professional finance program.

*A minor is at least four units (equivalent to 24 Monash credit points).
