Over the course of the program – which can be completed in as little as one year by students with the relevant experience – you’ll become more familiar with the latest econometric, statistical and data analytics tools. More specifically, how you can use these tools to offer data-driven solutions in areas including empirical economics and finance, risk analysis, forecasting, health economics, energy, and climate change.

The course will further your expertise in one of the following themes:

  • Macro and financial econometrics
  • Micro and health econometrics
  • Data analytics for energy and climate

The Master of Applied Econometrics provides you with both coursework and research components, equipping you with the required skills in econometric techniques and research experience to undertake major applied econometric projects. High-performing students can also use the program to prepare for a subsequent PhD program.

Minimum Entry Requirements (International students)

Qualifications

**Due to unit availability and progression requirements, Entry Level 2 (full-time) is restricted to Semester 1 commencement only, and is not available for mid-year (Semester 2) intake.

Entry level 1: 72 points to complete
Duration: 1.5 years full-time, 3 years part-time
An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) with at least a high credit (65%) average or equivalent Grade Point Average in a STEM or business area that includes a 1st year statistics or mathematics unit or equivalent.
Entry level 2: 48 points to complete
Duration: 1 year full-time, 2 years part-time

An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) with at least a high credit (65%) average or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA) in a STEM or business area that includes an advanced unit on econometrics or statistics or equivalent and Australian graduate certificate / honours degree (or equivalent).

OR

An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) in a STEM or business area that includes an advanced unit on econometrics or statistics or equivalent and two years relevant professional experience*.

*Applicants applying on the basis of work experience are required to provide a detailed curriculum vitae, outlining their employment history and professional experience.

Applicants who have completed relevant discipline units in an Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent qualification) may be exempted from undertaking advanced preparatory units and will be able to choose an alternative unit, in consultation with the Course Director.

IELTS (Academic): 6.5 Overall score, with minimum band scores: Listening 6.0, Reading 6.0, Writing 6.0 and Speaking 6.0 or Pearson Test of English (Academic): 58 Overall score, with minimum scores: Listening 50, Reading 50, Speaking 50 and Writing 50 or TOEFL iBT:

0 - 120 scale:
79 Overall score, with minimum scores: Reading 13, Listening 12, Speaking 18 and Writing 21

1 - 6 scale:
4 Overall score, with minimum scores: Reading 3.5, Listening 3, Speaking 3.5 and Writing 4.5

or Courses that require English Level A only: Other approved English tests (minimum entry scores apply)

Courses with English Level B, C, D, E and F: Other approved English tests (higher entry scores apply than specified)

Partner with another course

Double degree courses allow you to study towards two different degrees at the same time, and graduate with two separate qualifications. Enrolment Obligations

International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than one third (33%) of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students must enrol in at least one unit that is not by distance and/or online in each compulsory study period unless the student is completing the last unit of their course.
